Traded Sam Howell to pick him at 142, DL that dropped due to injury.

the only "good" news is ACL and other similar are very repairable and typically can be healed with players back to the pre-injury form.

JS said Mills won't be available until mid season or maybe even later. They haven't replaced the snaps that went to Robertson-Harris and Hankins so maybe they pick up another vet DT like they always seem to.

Watch some tape on this guy though ... he's worth waiting for the injuries to heal.

Those are selected highlights but there are flashes of JJ Watt (not saying he could be that consistently good) upon occasion.
I hope he’s fully recovered before he’s put back on the field.

Note that we resigned Hankins yesterday to a one-year deal.

It's always fun to get hyped on new players, but we already cut Cameron Young from the 2023 Draft Class. He was a 4th round pick, and it just makes me think if we just don't scout as well as we are expected. I can't expect more than half of these players to contribute right away, but dumping a 4th round pick that just 2 years ago shows we are still missing even in the later rounds.

JS was pretty vague when asked why Cameron Young was released, he did say "he is a really good person" though. Everything I've seen points to Young's inability to recover from his knee injury. He wasn't released with an injury settlement (I have no idea what the criteria for that is) and the timing of it was odd. I wonder if the team docs said he was good to go and Young thought otherwise, hence the release.

I mean if there is potential, there is potential. He was on a very cheap contract. So even keeping him around as a practice squad participant would have been fine. However, his release came out of left field. No one saw that coming, and it would make sense to have a 4th rounder who you drafted two years ago still going through development. Quite honestly, I think releasing Cam Young, is the exact reason why LJ Collier got released. A player that never really developed into the scheme they wanted that player to be. Obviously LJ Collier was a bigger miss as he was a 1st round pick. However, dumping a 4th rounder right before the draft means they once again couldn't find a shred of use for him on this team going forward. Well that was still with Pete as the coach, so any player on the 2023 draft can still shoulder some of that influence on Pete's defense.

He was drafted to play in a different scheme so maybe the fit in MacDonald’s Defense wasn’t advantageous to his strengths.

Very true, and let's not forget Mike Morris was taken the round after, and he hasn't contributed much either. Being a Michigan Alum he should be a fit for Mike Mac's D, but he is becoming an after thought as well.

Cameron Young's natural position was NT, so I doubt scheme fit was an issue. If it was scheme fit or if he just wasn't good at playing football, I'm sure he would have been released back in early March when George Fant, Dremont Jones and others were released. Why did they wait 3 months?

Offseason workouts at the VMAC started on April 22nd and Young was released the next day. I'm sure the injury was the main reason.

FWIW, Seahawks incurred 363K in dead money with Young's release.

It does sound like injuries were part of him being cut. He started on IR in 2024 and was put back on IR in November so maybe it’s something chronic. Or maybe he just wasn’t able to make the jump to NFL as a starter.
Is there a monetary difference between just cutting a player and using the released with an injury designation and are there restrictions as to how many IR Designated releases a team is permitted?

Good question, I'd like to know that as well. The NFL website does have the complete rulebook posted but I've never had the patience to go through it.

Daniel Jeremiah says pre- injury, he is a did “Top-50” pick. We’ll hope the medical staff did their job. Thes days m, recovery from ACL is a high %.
