Our Strongest Defensive Unit is in Trouble!

Postby idhawkman » Fri Sep 14, 2018 3:25 pm

Intersting article out on 24/7: https://247sports.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/Article/TreVon-Johnson-signed-Lavon-Coleman-waived-121854806/

Talks about the once thought of strongest and deepest unit on defense is now very thin and vulnerable.

KJ probably not back until next week at the soonest.

Bwags suffering a groin injury and no indication if he can go or not.

Griffin and Calitro not ready for full time action.

We sign Kendricks and another LB to our practice squad.

This is not good after just the first week.

When's the bye?

The bye is in Week 7, after the London game.

It's a bit early to hit the panic button. We have an extra day this week for those guys to get healthy, so we'll see come Monday.

I agree. I think RW gives us a 50 burger in Chicago to lighten the load on the defense and I can keep my 18-1 prediction going...

I'm more hopeful that ET and MCDougald are able to go the whole game this week along with Tre.

We also have a favorable late season schedule.

We do? Our first 4 games doesn't feature any playoff teams (from last season) while 2 of our last 4 games are against divisional champs (Vikings and Chiefs). Unless you are referring to the fact that we have a lot of home games at the end of our schedule.

I've always said that we shouldn't be handicapping schedules until after the first 4-5 games.

Well, I like college football better anyway. If the Hawks flop this year (and I expect that, especially now that the injuries are already mounting up) I'll still have plenty of exciting football to watch through the first of the year.

With Wright and Wagner, we have what is probably the 2 best LBs in the league.
However, there's no way we could keep equally qualified replacements as backups. There's no way a team can keep Pro Bowl/All Pro players sitting on the bench just in case of injury.
And when you have quality at any position and glaring needs at others, unless a real talent falls in the draft or you get lucky with a UFA, it isn't a priority to get one in the off season.
Backups are backups for a reason and when the starter(s) go down there will be a falloff in play at that position or positions.

Yes we do; 4 of our last 5 are at home, and if you're abiding by your own criteria of not assuming which teams are or are not tough outs before week 5 or 6 how can you not, in week 2, see that as a favorable late season schedule?

Your problem is you choose to cast things in their worst case scenarios as a default position. I don't.
