17th Game

Postby jshawaii22 » Tue Mar 30, 2021 7:40 pm

Looks like it's a done deal. One more game and one less preseason game, with possibly 2 weeks off during the year to push the SB to Washington's BD weekend.

By the way, all NFC goes on the road for the game, and as the division winner, we drew going to the Eastern time zone to play Pittsburgh as our 17th game next year. Could of been KC or Buffalo, so maybe we came out OK.

Not only did we draw the Steelers on the road, we are supposedly going to get them in mid December.

The addition of the 17th game pushes the Super Bowl back to the 2nd Sunday in February, which seems odd. If they are eliminating a preseason game, you would think that they'd start the season earlier, not adding it to the end of the schedule as they appear to have done. I guess they didn't want to start it on the Labor Day weekend, perhaps in deference to MLB.

They also decided to make permanent last season's 14 team playoff format.

I hope you get an unexpected gift this year, Bob. We could all enjoy it, too.
I thought I read (probably on PFT) that the SB falls on President's Day weekend, which is probably a good thing so some people can recover for a day.

10-4 on wishing CBob an extra special birthday gift.

Good point on the SB being played a day in advance of a national holiday. Perhaps that was part of the motivation of moving the season back a week rather than ahead. The Monday following the SB is one of if not the most popular call in sick days of the year and there's been talk of making the day after the SB a national holiday.

Just when you thought you may have a 8-8 season the NFL handed you another loss

According to PFT, what used to be the 4th game of the pre-season will now be a bye week.
That's probably not a bad idea for teams to make last minute changes to rosters and maybe pick up a player if they see a weakness or injury.

The 4th preseason game was essentially a bye week, anyway.

It also raises the question as to who hosts the odd preseason game. The teams that are away for the odd regular season game?

It will probably bounce from year to year until they go to an 18 game season with 2 pre-season games.

There's some downside to shortening the preseason schedule. Less time to evaluate drafted and undrafted young players and less practice and preparation time for the regular season. I expect we'll see that teams will look sloppy and out of sync for an extra game at the start of the regular season.

Yah, and this year it's a double bummer for small school players who won't have much tape to show and not many scouts in attendance.
They will have to show early in OTA's and TC that they have enough potential to stick to a roster.

Your team does one thing well: beat the Seahawks on occasion because that is your yearly Super Bowl. I'm sure you're looking forward to your Super Bowl against us because you won't be taking the division.

On most occasions, I don't even read what that clown writes, let alone respond to him. I'm surprised that anyone does.

It'll be interesting to see any team going 8-8 in a 17 games season.

Yeah, I don't bother to read it either. Given the level of most comments, I assume it's somebody's 10 year old kid posting.

He's not even good troll. Rather than make anyone mad or frustrated , the characters in his text just take up space and are about as relevant or interesting as an ad for used condoms or something.
