Pass blocking looks better tonight so far. Run blocking still yuck. Too many negative run plays.

That botched center snap was a killer. Great we have a defense

I wish RW would take advantage of those free plays like Aaron R does.
I also wish RW threw the ball as well as Drew Brees does. I watched him kill Dallas last night.

Now that's what I am talking about!!! Now Chuckie can stop talking about how we haven't scored a TD in the first half.

Kalibane.... I'm starting to move over to your vantage point. Our line is so bad. 1st n goal from the 9 ends up being a 51 yard FG??? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot???

What's bugging me the most right now are all the negative running plays. Just sets up Russ to get hit more. In fairness overall the blocking has been better today but Wilson still is taking way too many hits and pressures that aren't his fault.
And yeah Megatron just barely nudged Willisms and went right by him.

We have got to get Graham involved with the offense or we look stupid for giving Unger to NO.
I know our O-Line is really young and still have to gel, but our Red Zone offense is pathetic.

Nice scramble I guess but he held that ball way too long.

It really is getting old now with Bevell not getting Graham involved. It should not be hard to draw up plays for a TE like him.

So... We run a drive full of spread formations and the TE out there for the majority of the snaps is Luke Willson... I do not get Bevell. He took Graham off the field for that 3rd down play. Why trade for him if you're taking him off the field in those situations.

Wilson's fault. He called out the blitzed and didn't get the ball out.

I am glad we won, but like Sista said, if we continue to play this poor on offense the Bengals will kill us. So will several other teams.
I have to wonder if from a O-Line point of view that this is a rebuilding year. We will only go so far as our O-Line this season.

Was it an illegal move that KJ did to tap the ball out of the end zone? If so, shouldn't the Lions have gotten the ball on the 1 yard line?

Yeah, it was illegal, but, like pass interference it is a judgment call by the back judge and he didn't feel it was intentional. In reality it is the same as complaining about an obvious pass interference that should have been called at the end of a game, which does happen from time to time and it usually doesn't become the lone talking point of a game. The fact that it was a 'unique' call and situation is why it is getting all the headlines right now and probably will continue that way.

That's called a "technicality". Quit bitching for the Lions to get bailed out by it.
[edit]
And yeah, it was a judgment call- get over it.

This is what I'm starting to fear is a reality. That line will be our undoing this year unless something *seriously* changes.
And lest Okung think that works in his favor, think again, Russell- you're part of the problem currently, not the solution.

It no longer matters whether it was illegal batting or not. The national press is all over that we had another 'fail Mary' play, in the same end of the field.
It would of been really hilarious if it had been the Golden One instead of Calvin.
However, watching the argument develop on ESPN and NFL Network talking heads shows that NO ONE KNOWS THE RULES, including the refs. It was a judgement call. It's not reviewable. In a perfect world, KJ should of caught the ball and run out of bounds with it or fell down on it, but IF THE REFS DON'T KNOW THE RULES, HOW THE HELL CAN THE PLAYERS? I doubt KJ knows that rule. I didn't. Did any of you... ahead of the play?

Its a non issue. the game was lost for Detroit when Megatron failed to protect the ball and won by Seattle when Kam Bam took advantage of it. In real time speed the tap by KJ is barely visible and it clearly was a choice between posessing the ball and encouraging it out of bounds. No Lion had as chance at it. But hey we are the Seasquacks so this is what we get.

O line is awful. Overall protection scheme including offenses to call vs corner and safety blitzes is abysmal. There is much work to do between now and next Sunday or Cincy is going to kill us and pick our carcass clean.

Great job defense and I be lovin me some Kam tonight. The ball was going out of bounds on the last play. Yes what kJ did was illegal according to the rules, but sh*t happens (um SB XL) anyone.
Offense and cables converts.
Well if it looks like a pile of crap, smells like a pile of crap, then it probably is a pile of crap. I hear a lot of people b*tching about play calling and to some extent I agree. So, I pose this question to all the Offensive coordinators out there---What the hell do you call when the o-line is incapable of blocking?
Just wondering

At least we have a season to talk about still, folks.
Because while nobody (including the refs) knew the rule (and subsequently the correct call to make), we are BEYOND LUCKY to be sitting here and chatting about this win.
You know damn well that if the circumstances were reversed, we'd be sitting here Beyond Pizzed. I'll take the win, because, what else are you going to do? But make no mistake, we caught a Huge break. Kam did make a Fantastic play to begin with, though, and the rest...will be beaten to death on sports talk radio, starting tomorrow.
As it is, we should've won this game by 20+.
Aside from that...
Turnovers were a killer, obviously, with the fumble return for a TD being absolutely shocking.
We scored our first, 1st half TD of the season...then did virtually nothing else the rest of the game ( in no small part to turnovers that killed a couple drives). Special thanks to Hauschka for making two 50+ yd FG's.
The OL had some flashes here and there (just like last week), but otherwise it was RW scrambling magic that kept plays alive. His fumbling, as we all saw, finally caught up to him (had 11 last yr, but all were recovered by Seattle, another amazing stat when you think about it).
The defense...at the end of the day, they saved our collective Bacon. 2 turnovers resulted in no points. They did give up that final long drive, which could've costed us the game. Still, they hung in there, and overall gave a great effort.
We miss a healthy Beast, and will need him badly next week. Rawls runs hard and had a few decent rushes, but Marshawn is the legit home run hitter. Can't underestimate his value, especially on the road in Cincy next week.
And, yes, we'll need to have our chit wired a whole lot tighter if we want to pull off a victory next Sunday.
Till then, count your (football) blessings that we are 2-2. It could've easily been much worse tonight.

If you are a betting person, For the first time in a couple of years, you'll get about 7 - 10 points and the 'Hawks next week. Coming off a Monday Night, flying east for a early (I assume) game on Sunday.

I don't see that the Hawk will be lucky to win that game. IF I were betting with my head and not my heart I would take the Bengals period.

Bitching over that call is stupid. It's not like there were any Lions in a position to recover that ball. Either K.J. would have recovered it or it would have gone out of bounds, end o' story. Technically they should have gotten the ball at the one. In terms of the spirit of the game the officials were correct to not make that call.
That being said, even if it doesn't go down as a loss, it sure feels like one.

I agree completely. If the rule said that the Lions should have gotten the ball back on that play, then the rule needs to be changed. IMO it should have been a touchback with us getting the ball and tack on a 5 yard penalty but no change in possession. There was no miscarriage of justice on that play, and the refs were correct not to allow an incidental act like that to determine the outcome of the game. That wasn't Fail Mary and it wasn't a Vinny Testeverde helmet touchdown.
