Hawks FB Coleman arrested he has been suspended indefinitely. He got in a car accident was not drinking but the other guy had a broken collar bone, and Derrick walked away from the scene. Sad.

Damn man, can't leave the scene. Ever, but especially if someone's injured.

I wonder if his hearing disability is a factor somehow. If he wasn't intoxicated why would he leave anyway?

Why he left is THE big question HT.

I hope it was just bad judgement leaving the scene, but in many cases it involves an intoxicant of some type.
I guess we will find out this afternoon.
I'm just glad nobody died.

This doesn't really affect the team, Seattle is rare in having 2 FB's.

Felony hit and run and vehicular assault? http://news.yahoo.com/seattle-seahawks- ... --nfl.html

That indicates intent doesn't it?

There's a LOT more to this than we know right now.

Sucks for him and I am certainly glad nobody died. That bail was denied means that something is up. Crossing my fingers for all involved to have the best possible outcome.

I'm not sure how he could get a driver's license if he's legally deaf. I'd like to know more about that. How can you hear a warning device?

Too bad, Coleman was a neat story and a great inspiration for a lot of people. Now he's brought a lot of shame onto himself.

You can get a licence if you are deaf, it's when you fail visual test it gets tricky.

In the comments section of the Field Gulls article on the topic, people are saying that Coleman is saying he doesn't remember anything after turning the corner before the collision, and his lawyer is saying he sustained a concussion. The sources are embedded tweets, so take it with a grain of salt. Another thing I read there was that he walked for 2 blocks and sat down, which is where the cops found him. If true, it seems to fit with the concussion/blackout theory much more than a tyring-to-flee story.

But who knows if those reports are true. Just have to wait and see.

You can't get a license if you are color blind but you can if you are deaf?

What are you talking about RD? My brother in law is color blind and has had both a New York and a Washington drivers license. There is no law against being color blind and a license. I know he couldn't join the military, but that is the only restriction he had ( and truthfully, he could join the military, just not see active combat).

I know they test for it, so my assumption was that if you failed you couldn't get one.

That wasn't really my point, though. It seems odd that legally deaf people can obtain a driver's license. How are they going to hear a car horn or a police siren?

How do some hear those same things with their music blaring? Some luxury cars are ultra silent and it's difficult to hear with the windows up.
People with hearing impairments probably have to be more aware of their surroundings than those who can hear.
I don't think it's insurmountable.

I agree that's what it is in practice. But that's not how it should be. Having a stereo blaring so loud that you can't hear a warning device should be just as much against the law as distracted driving, ie texting, cell phone use, etc.

It sounds like Coleman is going to use the Teddy Kennedy defense, that he was dazed and confused. It worked for a politician in the 70's, we'll see how it flies for a professional athlete in the 21st century.

Coleman was released yesterday because it will take weeks for the tox tests to come back from the lab. Coleman walked two blocks and then sat down and called the police him self and when they picked him up he was missing his shoes. I don't know if any of you have seen pictures from the accident scene but it was pretty horrific and very lucky no one was killed.

His agent did a video of him asking Coleman several questions to demonstrate that he was NOT under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.

Witnesses say it appeared that Coleman had fallen asleep at the wheel. It had been a long day of practice, film study, and then team meetings. According to Coleman he headed straight home.

Sounds like an accident and thankfully no one was hurt to badly, this is why people have insurance. The police have to do their due diligence and investigate but hopefully it will turn out Coleman was telling the truth.

Pete is going to talk to him today and he is suspended for now. If he did have a head injury/concussion then he would have missed the Carolina game anyhow due to the "protocol".
