In some circles, Marshawn is denigrated because in part his relationship with the media.
In this case, the kid was into fashion and wanted to some day own a boutique.
There was apparently no judgement on his part and is quoted as saying "If you're serious about getting those shoes, here's some money to help you get 'em. My job is to continue to see you grow."
I think that statement says a lot about who the man is outside of his profession.
