New Playoff Format?

Postby obiken » Sat Jan 09, 2016 5:37 pm

I really think you need a new playoff format. Every year we see Division winners with no business in the playoffs. This year it was the Texans. We need a new Playoff format based on Wins not the Division they are in.
Continue to play in the division for the regular season, due to travel, rivalries ect. But for the playoffs take the top 6, give the top 2 a bye just like now and play the WC games just like now. Make sense?

Nah, I think winning your Division should mean something.
As well, some Divisions are tougher than others so some good teams might not get a home game even though they might be one of the better teams.

But why should a cupcake in a weak division get a bye and tough team in tough division have to go on the road. It makes no sense.

The real question is how do you measure that? Not too lomg ago we hosted the saints and beat them when we had a losing record.

I agree but we were not a good playoff team, we were just tailor made for the Saints. Record had to count for something. Its why the NHL playoffs are the best.

Really? We should've beat the falcons the day we lost. We got completely got F-ed over at the half and still almost won the game.

Completely disagree. Winning your division should be the number one, two and three priority coming into the season. Changing who hosts based on record rewards teams that that might be the fourth team in their division the year before playing horrid divisions, a fourth place schedule beating sludge from the division. Even IF that was the case, superior road teams are beating the poor home teams, so what's the problem?

Divisions have to count for something or else it becomes the NBA, where nobody gives two sh*ts about anything but W-L.

Go ahead and give the home games to the better record, but leave the playoff spot with the division champs.

No change. Win your division, your reward is a playoff appearance......

The Hawks defeat the defending Super Bowl champs and we are not a "good" play off team?? Pull you lips off of that crack pipe Obi.

They do that already, don't they (better record after WC weekend hosts the game)?

I don't know if that's the case again this year or not, but that's all it should be, division championship should win you a home game for your fans.

Losing Divisions would also mean the loss of rivalries.

I'm of the same opinion about a new playoff format that I have been about other changes, like the XP change this season:

Leave well enough alone.
