Yep - lots of talk about it here in the bar area of CA re his future.

Clearly, he wants out, and it would be best for both sides if he leaves.

Haven't been paying attention, but what happened to the match made in heaven with he and Chip?

Judging by comments that Kelly made this week, the Niners want him back, so it sounds to me like it's more Kap wanting out more than the team wanting him to leave.

There's a lot of speculation about the Niners taking a QB with their first pick, perhaps Jared Goff from their own backyard.... assuming that the Browns go with Wentz.

On paper, Kaep looks to be a fit in Kelly's system. But, really, the damage has been done. It was also that only after SF hired Chip that there was a renewed interest in keeping CK for said reason. With all the dialog going on between them and Denver, it's obvious that neither side is that interested in making it work.

So how do you explain all the warm and fuzzy comments coming from both Kelly and Baalke?

“I’m a big Kap fan,” Kelly told reporters, according to CSNBayArea.com.

“I deal with him as a football player, and he’s been great.”

Indeed, at the combine, Kelly said much the same, a day after general manager Trent Baalke said he “absolutely” expected Kaepernick to be on the Niners’ roster on April 1, when $11.9 million of his salary becomes guaranteed

I understand that teams are always going to put on a façade for the public when it comes to player relations, but this sounds like a whole lot of fluff for a team that supposedly wants their starting quarterback out.

If they're trying to build the parameters of a trade, they are hardly going to say he's uncoachable and a distraction to the team.

Trent Dilfer, who I respect, put it best, He has become so dysfunctional that its starting to affect his mechanics. When are scouts going to learn that running QB's, don't last. IF you cant get it done long term with Vick or Randall Cunningham, what makes them think that they can get it done with Kap, Young, or anyone else.

IMO, Chip's comments about Kaep amount to lip service, and his opinion obviously doesn't carry much weight, since the Broncos and 49ers are in active trade talks.

The hangup on the deal getting done is, what else, money. Denver's willing to pay 7 of his 11.9 mil salary, and SF is not willing to pay the remainder 4.9 - for now. All the other details are apparently worked out.

Maybe Kelly feels his remarks serve as some kind of "insurance", meaning that if CK somehow remains in SF, he'll feel he has some kind of ally in his new HC. But, really, if the 49ers wanted to keep him - or if Kaepernick really wanted to stay - then they'd all be sitting down to hash out their differences and the animosity that's going on between the two camps.

If you're SF, you absolutely can't have this guy on the roster for the regular season. Once you've attempted to shop your former #1 QB around, the bridge is burned. Both sides need a change of scenery.

Understand and agree with all of the above comments. My point is that I think that it's more a matter of Kap wanting out than the Niners not wanting him.
