Regrading the 2013 Draft

In the midst of all the talk of this year's draft, it's time to look at the most recent draft for which we can give grades: the 2013 draft.

A good reminder that JS/PC are human, after all. When the highlights are a rotational DT and a backup TE, you know it's a pretty terrible draft class.

It wasn't good, but that class as a whole wasn't a stellar group to choose from.
I went down the list and there aren't very many standouts relative to the volume chosen, so I would think we weren't alone in a substandard result.
To add, it would have been very hard for someone to break into our lineup that year, anyway.

I don't know. Lot of guys on that list that are still in the NFL ( in fact most of them) none are stars, but quite a few have started games and had productive starts.

It looks to me that the value was the middle of the first until the middle of the 3rd round. The top of the draft was iffy with Joeckel and Fisher not yet being the studs the hype would have suggested by being top selections, but it picked up around the Sheldon Richardson pick. The QB class was stinko that year, and you are right there were some solid players, but it doesn't seem as deep as other drafts. Some teams that needed a lot of improvement at the time probably got the "glue" type of players that allow the stars to play better, though.

Maybe I'm too harsh, but to get zero starters (for the Hawks) and only a couple of role players from 11 picks seems really bad. The arguments about the quality of the entire 2013 draft class and the strength of our roster might convince me to move the grade up to an F+, but that's about it.

We were almost overloaded with talent, so if the pool of talent was in any way limited, it would be hard to find those that might break into the roster. We were clearly a young team on the rise that year, but if Jordan Hill had stayed healthy up to now, you might be looking at that draft a little differently.

No one ever won the Super Bowl on the strength of that year's draft.
