Does money talk?

Postby Steady_Hawk » Tue Jan 14, 2014 7:49 pm

I found this twitter statement over at FOX.

As of today, 4 times more money has been bet on 49ers than the Seahawks at the LVH SuperBook, according to Ed Salmons.

Seems a bit surprising honestly.

No sweat bro. The 9ers are always a big draw. Even the Cowboys still take on a ton of action. But at -3.5, I think there will be 4 x more unhappy people, than happy people, next Monday. Odd they are not moving the line with that imbalance (?!) I will check again, But I've seen very little movement in the line.

EDIT: The line opened at -3.5 and is holding at 3.5. So either that 4-1 ratio is inaccurate, or Hawk fans are betting dollars while 9er fans are betting quarters. There can be no other explanation. All good.

Eh, they have a huge national following, they're playing well, they're getting 3 points, and our offense has looked pedestrian. Not all that surprising, I don't think.

I think HawkWow's point is that if the current handle is say $50 million and $40 million was all on SF the Casino's would be moving the line like crazy. The exposure to a one sided bet like that would be like $25 million. No one can afford to lose money like that. Something about the 4 to 1 number has to be inaccurate or misunderstood.

They're (the Niners) the more popular team by far. They are the media darling. They have been called the "hot team". There is no reason at all to expect anything else.
Of course more money will be laid on them. Doesn't mean anything at all.

More money was laid on the Saints in the Beastquake game too, but that run left a lot of betters very unhappy!
