Shaquill Griffin vs Jeremy Lane

Postby politicalfootball » Thu Aug 10, 2017 5:49 pm

Griffin is tearing it up in training camp. He is intercepting the ball and deflecting it just tearing it up in training camp. While Jeremy Lane is on the sidelines with an injury. Lane will be playing soon though and if Griffin can't prove himself with the coaches he won't start. Time will tell but right now Griffin has the nod.

Pete said in the last day or so that while in Seattle he has not had anyone with his combination of size and speed. Pete is always positive, but he is gushing about this guy. Sherman also seems excited about him. Thomas, Chancellor, Sherman, and Griffin. The Legion of Bloom?

If not by the end of training camp I think Shaq will be starting before the season's done.

Practice is one thing. Games are another.

He has a lot of abilities, but there aren't too many rookies that come in and make big impacts in the secondary right away.

Not picking a side but the 710 guys seem to indicate that Lane was looking very good before he went out.

Lane is said to have a "soft tissue injury" and won't play against the Chargers. We'll see how well Griffin plays then, but it does sound like he's got a lot of tools and potential.

Shaquill Griffin did well against the Chargers. Just like an old veteran player. I think that the job is his for the taking.

Lane did great when he was in. I think he knows that his job is in jeopardy.

I'm glad that Griffin looks to be the starter. At minimum, he has a shot at contributing right away. Mixing in some new blood needs to happen anyway.

Shaquill may take some early criticism because other teams will not be challenging Richard Sherman. That said, he is going to get a lot of balls thrown his way, and as with all rookies, as well as all defensive backs in general, he will get beat at times. But, I believe he can play the spot, and if he falters, there are others to step up. This is a potentially momentous defense. I hope they make it happen.

It will be interesting to follow Lane. He was looking really good until the interception that resulted in a devastating injury. Last year he was less of a player, but it is not certain that he was really back fully. With the current DB trade moves, it becomes more likely that the team will stay with him. But, far from me to try to anticipate what this front office will do.
