I know you all were too disgusted to start this thread, but someone had to. As Mak always tells me, "It's all about half time adjustments!" Remember the 2-14 Hawks back in the day? But the old school fans are still here...they are our team. The Hawks have been looking like a completely different team in the second half. C'mon guys, Shack up and hope we turn this thing around!

It's time to say it: we're just not that good.

They spend a ton of time figuring out their protests, not enough time conditioning and studying film.

We're facing arguably the worst team in the league and getting owned.

Good win... hopefully they can get some positive momentum from a really good 2nd half

I hope there aren't too many broken TV's out there. The Hawks feel like an old diesel truck, it takes a damn long time to warm up, but once it gets going it chugs right up the hill.

We rag-dolled one of the worst teams in the NFL at home. Glad they got on track on the second half. We'll see how things go against the equally Jekyll and Hyde Rams.

Been awhile since I've seen a score of ours this lopsided that really doesn't tell the whole story.

I dunno. You take the win, as always, but today's dismal 3 quarters against a dog s*** team like the Colts - in Seattle no less - is still pretty telling.

It's telling, because our guys seemingly have no problem focusing on all other things political, and somehow manage to cram in a little studying before kickoff. Wasn't that nice of them?

Tale of two halves. The first half was by far our worst effort of the young season, and we've had some pretty poor outings. The second half was by far the best. So it's the classic "is the glass half full or half empty?" proposition. You can make a good argument for both.

And I second what Zorny said. This team needs to leave all that political/social justice nonsense for the offseason. They're getting paid to play football. What is it that Russell used to say? The separation is in the preparation?

It's hard to draw any conclusions from the game because of the caliber of the opponent we were playing but the offensive line seemed to really jell in the second half, protecting Russ much better and opening huge holes for the backs. Even Lacy was ripping off nice chunks of yards. And with what looked like a pretty serious injury to Carson it looks like we will need Lacy to get his act together.

It was also interesting to see how when the offense got rolling so did our defense. It was like they were playing down hill. They looked like the defense of a few years ago.

In addition, I have noticed that Paul Richardson is becoming more and more a part of the offense, filling in the gap left by the Kearse trade.

Eh, yes and no. I think I'm waiting for a good *pattern* to emerge, not just a good quarter or two.

The cynic in me feels like yesterday was a garbage-time pile-on. Defense played well against a backup QB in a really bad offense, and the offense looked like more of the same until the D handed them a second TD to take the pressure off (the defensive scores were why we weren't in a tie game with Indian-freaking-apolis in the 4Q).

This isn't to say I'm not happy about the outcome, nor that there aren't valid counterpoints, and I acknowledge that an NFL win is an NFL win.

My tune will change significantly if we do the same thing to the Rams next week.

It seems that the scripting of plays is holding the Offense back. That's usually the first 4 possessions wasted. If they are to script, do it for just 8 plays. That should give you enough insight as to what the Defense is doing.

On another note, we have been talking about moving Wilson around instead of a straight dropback. Even Collinsworth said (paraphrasing) that our Offense seems to be better when we move the pocket or roll Wilson out as it give the blockers better angles and he's only seen us play one game live - I imagine he looked at film, though. I might add it puts pressure on the Defense with Wilson having the option of running.
I think it's in part why nothing happens until the 2nd half and playing catch up against good Defenses isn't a reliable recipe.

One of the commentators (it might have been Warren Moon in the post game show) made the comment that when the O line abandoned their zone blocking scheme and went mano e mano the run game started to crank.

The oline started blowing people out when they started drive blocking in the second half. I think the ZBS needs to be abandoned and just straight up block and drive people out. That's when the run started working and when the play action started working. After that, the D got in on the act. So the bottom line is - abandon the ZBS...

I've always been high on PRich for his abilities but his durability is what kills him...

What the writer doesn't consider is the Defense can be ground down in the 1st half waiting for the Offense to give them time to rest.
Sometimes with no Offense for 30 minutes, the other team's lead will be too much to overcome and it will happen against good Defenses or Offenses.
They have to get it going earlier. That's the bottom line.
