An Open Letter to Largent80

Postby yoder » Tue Nov 07, 2017 1:00 pm

Fellow Shackers,

I was released from the hospital last night due to an unfortunate head injury. No worries, I'm ok. Though it was brought to my attention by a few posters that obscene material was posted on the Shack during a time that I was not able to moderate the forum. This is completely unacceptable, period! I know debates can be heated, which is fine. But when people cross the line I need to take action.

Since I was not able to moderate for a few days and the image has been removed, it's still apparent that whatever was posted was upsetting to several people. Let us keep in mind that this forum is read by many people that aren't members, some of which are underage.

With that said, Largent80...your account has been temporarily deactivated. If a fellow Shacker would please PM me with either a description...or link to the image posted, I can then decide if this results in a permanent ban (with all posts deleted).

A note to the community here, I sincerely apologize if anyone was upset by what was posted. This forum is a very special place and I want it to be enjoyed by all, regardless of age, race, gender, political stance, religion, etc. I check this forum multiple times a day, I'm sorry this happened during the few days I was absent. I will do everything I can to prevent this from happening again.

As a reminder to all, here is a link to the HawkShack Terms of Use.
http://www.hawkshack.com/forum/ucp.php?mode=terms

I'd like to highlight this:

"You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any laws be it of your country, the country where “HawkShack.com” is hosted or International Law. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned, with notification of your Internet Service Provider if deemed required by us. The IP address of all posts are recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that “HawkShack.com” have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should we see fit."

Again, my most sincere apologies to all.

I'm glad you're OK.
Was it in the Off Topic section? It can get quite heated over there...

I know the picture you're talking about. It was in the off-topic section. Pretty disgusting picture. Perma-ban would be harsh, but I can see a few days wake up call. It looked like something you'd see in a porn magazine in their politics column.

I know this isn't about me but it didn't offend me, disgust me or shock me as I'm a pretty hardened old Special Ops guy. That said, it would be totally inappropriate for kids and others to see. I'd hate to see a permanent ban as I do enjoy his posts for the most part even though I don't always agree with them.

Hi, yoder.

I'm sending my comments to you via a PM and won't comment about the material in question here. I join all of my other friends in our little community in expressing my great relief that your head injury wasn't too serious.

Best Wishes,

River Dog.

Best wishes, Yoder. I know I forgot that anyone of any age can click on this site. I am ashamed I forgot so simple a truth. I myself will "dial it back" even further. I will take my anger out in the exercise room and not on line..

The pic was pretty gross, reminded me of stuff that was in Hustler. I hope you already have deleted the comments because I believe mine was gross and like you said, had no place in a forum open to all.

A rule of thumb should be "would I want a great grandchild of mine to visit a site? Yeah, but w/o the vitriol that I myself added to.

Yoder - Wow, brother, glad you are ok.

In terms of everything else, I'm generally a fan of 2nd chances, but will leave it to others to decide.

I didn't see the picture in question, so I won't add my .02. Just read the part about the Head injury and I too am glad you are ok. Sorry to hear you had the medical issue, but nonetheless pleased with your prognosis. Be well

Hey Folks,

First off, I'm ok...just a little foggy...but thank you for the kind words.

Second, I really to try to be diplomatic here. This community is one of a kind and I do my best to stay on the sidelines, but when someone goes too far I need to throw a flag. I don't like being in this position, but that's what I'm here for...and happy to do it.

Finally, after a long chat with Mak and some insightful PM's, I think a 1 week suspension is an appropriate response.

So Largent80, if you're listening...your insight and contributions to this forum are appreciated. Please respect the community and adhere to the Terms of Use. I don't mind people expressing their thoughts and opinions, that's the point of this board, yet there are standards that need to be maintained. There is a line.

Sincerely,

Yoder

Very happy you are okay Yoder.

I'm happy that we will have Largent80 back after a stern slap on the wrist and a good talking to. Looking forward to seeing his posts again.

Yoder! I am so sorry you were wounded. I am glad you are ok. As to L80 I never saw it. I leave it to your judgement whether it was a recoverable, or a non recoverable mistake.

Fellow Shackers,

First, I want to say that Yoder is doing great! Good enough that I'm taking him to the Monday night game... I'm sure the noise and beer will heal any remnant concussion symptoms, if there were any at all....... ;)
Second, I want to apologize for not be a better moderator, as I've been a bit distracted with the triviality of the drum beat of day to day living. I will be more on the ball when it comes to moderating.
Third, feel free to PM me as well with any issues. When I'm on the shack, I sometimes have kids sitting on my lap or playing around me. I'm glad they did not see the image.
Finally, if you feel like the off topic section is a bit restrictive, we invite you to have that conversation via a medium that does not use the HawkShack boards (i.e. email, facebook, or whatever).

You guys rock and are the reason why the Shack exists!

Go Hawks!

In general, I believe everyone deserves a second chance, and depending on the infraction, maybe three or four.
I fervently believe Rob means well, he just gets wound. That too should factor in to the equation.

Thanks to all, feeling much better now.

Largent80: If you're still here, your account has been reactivated. Your thoughts and opinions are obviously valued here, welcome back... just keep it cool. As I've said before, there is a line. I'm fine with the arguments, please refrain from posting obscene material.

Sincerely,

Yoder

Glad you are doing better, and for all those offended by the pic I posted, I apologize.

If I ever say or post something offensive to you feel free to contact me via PM. I don't do that type of thing on purpose you know.

Glad you're back in the fold, L80.

I really feel that we have a nice setup here. Both yoder and Mak keep their distance and rarely post in either forum, giving them a greater sense of objectivity should a disagreement break out.
