Bennett, What's UP?

Postby idhawkman » Tue Nov 21, 2017 7:42 am

I posted this in another thread but wanted to get input on what I believe is a weakness in our DL.

Is Bennett done? I think he is. He bragged about going after a 1st year guard and then didn't do squat against that kid. How bad or distracted is Bennett if he can't get past a 1st year guard once in a full game?

How about the disappearing act of Frank Clark?....Is he even playing?

Bennett made some good plays and is playing rather injured. We needed to get more pressure on Matt than we did, but remember he was the league MVP for a reason. Our D did a better job against the falcons than the score board suggests. this is the first game in like a million games that he didn't throw for north of 200 yards. I think Bennett is far from done.

Bennett played fine last night.
He had pressure on the QB as much as anyone on our team and he was pretty good against the run.
I don't know what you're seeing that makes you doubt him.

The front 7 and the back 4 complement one another or they don’t. We are toast on the back end, especially when shaq went down. The front 7 were actually pretty good considering. I remember Bennett shooting the gap so fast he almost took the handoff and dropped the back for a 4 yard loss. That stood out. In the end they were good enough if the special teams had done their job.

Well, touche... I have no argument there with you. Guess we could say the same about the entire dline.

I only saw him make one play coming around Avril's end. That wasn't against the 1st year guard. By then I think he'd given up trying to get past the guard.

Also, i think he's been injured for 2 years now (not counting the time he was running through a casino in Vegas).

I was thinking the exact same thing. He is not playing well. Time to cut him.

I'd like to see Bennett gone next season.
He'll be 33, and his 'cause' has, imo, affected his play.
Get rid of him.

He has been playing hampered for weeks. Coupled with Cliff’s injuries, he’s not been as effective. That said, I appreciate that he’s playing through pain and still making plays. You guys give up on our warriors awfully fast. Makes me wonder if it’s all about what you are seeing on the field.

The defense is getting old, and quick.
Thomas and Kam are nearly done, Sherm is on the mend.
As for Bennett, yea, I don't care what the guy (or others) think if it isn't football.

I'm getting a little of that vibe, too but it might just be looking down the road and cutting losses early by using the Belichick philosophy. It didn't always work out for him, though - Wilfork as maybe the best example.

Holmgren once said that Bill Walsh's philosophy is it is much better to get rid of a player 1 year before they are done than to keep them for 2-3 years after they are done.

We're gonna need new leadership in the locker room coming up, particularly on defense.
I'm telling you, this group is gonna be done before you know it, and fans are gonna be scratching their head because they can't believe the ol' D just doesn't get 'er done anymore.

The team also needs to get back to a Football First mentality during the season.
They can resume whatever 'cause' later.
The complete bulls***t politics and all other nonsense is killing the league now, in addition to the garbage games that have become seemingly more prevalent this year.

And on this note....
Notice how Most of the players don't take a knee?
That's because this has been a rich man's game.
The majority of the guys protesting have already made their money.
Had each of them done this prior to making millions, then I'd agree they're actually 'risking' something.
As it stands now, it's b.s. posturing designed to give the impression that they care more about 'the greater good' or whatever than the game. If that were true, they'd have quit or retired by now and gone on the speaker circuit.

Too bad Holmy never followed that policy or he wouldn't have left the team so bereft of talent when he left.

CK took a knee protesting police brutality, now, I don't know if the players are taking a knee to protest police brutality or to protest that CK doesn't have a job in the NFL.

Methinks that CK should follow what Hall Of Famer Jim Brown said about him. "He needs to decide if he is going to be a football player or an activist, he cannot be both at the same time." -Jim Brown He also went on to say why CK and these other players have no business using the games to make their statements, he said if they have a statement to make that they should do it on their own time and that no one should bring their politics to their place of work because if they do they shouldn't be surprised that there would be consequences.

Jim Brown knows of what he speaks and the players of today should have listened to him. This taking a knee business has gone on way too long and I believe they have lost sight as to the very reason it was started in the first place. If it ain't working FIX IT! Crazy is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.

The ONLY thing that can help relations between citizens and those that serve and protect is CIVIL DIALOGE.

CK has made his own bed and now he has to lay in it. He has thrown his LAST NFL pass (it was an INT. wasn't it ??) his career was over the day he sued the NFL.

I believe the Bennett brothers will retire after this season. I do like that Mike hasn't jumped off sides as much this season. I don't like that he seems to be going through the motions, he has already "checked out".

I too wonder about his law suit, as many video cameras they have in Vegas, I wish they had one of the incident (or do they and I missed it?) but I* don't think his suit has anything to do with his play this season, or does it?

I would hate to think he was only hanging around to collect a paycheck because if that was the case they should have waived him and not Freeney. But, I think the real story is exactly what Hawk Sis said, his turf toe is hurting real bad and has slowed him down and made him less effective, maybe PC has kept him on the squad for team chemistry and leadership (see my post about team chemistry and the Hoodie). Is PC being PC???

It's not just Police brutality they are protesting.
They are protesting the inequalities in society with policing being a part of it.
As it is, Kaep is being blackballed.

And what kind of progress is being made by kneeling?
You have to beat people at their own game.
They have to be specific about what kind of change they want, then have a plan.
Simply shouting to the heavens about how they've been victimized accomplishes nothing in the long run.
You have to use the law against the ones who you believe are causing the problem, including the ones who took an oath to protect said law.
I don't hear Anything about that.
Meanwhile, people should keep their cell phones running if they feel hassled by the cops. If you're on public property while out and about, you have a legal right to film them.
Dirty cops are about as bad as it gets. Get the proof of whatever it is they're doing, for example, and start climbing the ladder to see where the buck stops.
Protesting before games does little to gain the sympathy or support of the cause.
Fewer viewers means less money for the league, and possibly less money down the road for the players. They're essentially cutting their own throats by going about it this way, and the sooner they recognize it, the better.

Part of the problem is that multi million dollar athletes, many of whom came from poor families, protesting the inequalities of society seems too much like an oxymoron. Their protests do not have credibility as they are examples of the exact opposite. They are products of a society that has provided them with an incredible opportunity. It would be analogous to Bill Gates protesting against the evils of capitalism.

I don't believe for a minute that Kaep is being blackballed, which would suggest that there's an active conspiracy amongst the owners. Each of the 32 teams have their own reasons for not hiring him that they came to independently and not at the suggestion of other owners. Some teams may not be hiring him because he's turned himself into so much of a distraction that they figure his potential for field contributions don't make up for his off field controversy, but that's not blackballing, it's simply business.

It was actually a serious question. I haven't heard a peep, either. I'm sure we would have heard something had he followed through with his threat.

Bennett's attorney said back in September that he was going to file unless something drastic happened, and something drastic did happen just a few weeks later: The Las Vegas shooting. Bennett would have been a frigging idiot had he filed a lawsuit following that incident.

If that's the case, they don't care about winning.
If he was signed and won some games, all would be forgiven. Count on it.

And he is being blackballed. Nobody can tell me that he isn't a better QB than some of those now on NFL rosters and maybe some of the starting QB's. If it were a matter of principle, none of the players protesting on those teams that need QBs would have jobs on those teams today. So he is being singled out for punishment - a head on a stick for a lack of a better term.

If being marginally better than another QB (which I agree he is) is judged to not be enough to offset the baggage he brings, they're not going to sign him.

It's not complicated and it shouldn't be surprising.

The fact that he is probably better than a number of other quarterbacks currently employed has little to do with why he's not on a roster. They don't rank quarterbacks from 1 to 64 and give them all jobs with various teams according to their rank. Each team has their own reason for employing the players they have on their rosters, and their reasons don't always include raw talent.

Kaepernick had a look-see with us, and we were obviously in the market for an upgrade at our backup position, eventually cutting our backup from last year (Boykin) and signing a journeyman QB. Even though it's obvious that we had a need and Kaep's skill set was very compatible with our offense, Pete Carroll, who is perhaps the most liberal and open minded head coach in the league, didn't bite. Are you going to argue that Pete and/or Paul Allen are in on the conspiracy?
