Feelings about NFL draft order model and parity

I understand the NFL wants to create parity - level the playing field so to speak across markets. It's good for business. Keeps smaller market franchise fan bases engaged. I get that. But it still sticks in my craw that it penalizes success by putting winners at the back of the draft order line. It sort of smells like what they do in kids sports leagues when everyone gets a trophy for participating. It's un-American.

Any thoughts?

Could have no draft. Drop the cap and spend wide open to whomever you can sign. No limit on number of players

Now that would be interesting

Given the financial situation of our owner... I love this idea.

Overall, I think it's a fair system. The problem is, teams that perform poorly are a reflection of leadership and senior decision making. That same poor decision making and leadership leads to poor player evaluation, development and needs assessment.

I like the system the way it is. The only thing I would change would be the financial structure. IMO teams, or rather the league, should be made to pay for their own stadiums. I'd also like to see changes made to permit an ownership structure like what the Packers have, a publicly traded company where the fans own the team.

The goal to achieve parity is what makes the league what it is.
That up to 6 teams who were near the bottom last year have a chance to either win divisions or make the playoffs shows it's working.

What difference does it make when officials decide outcomes of games?

It makes all the difference in the world! If you are the team the officials are cheating for (or really you're just a good team) then you have to pick at the end. If you are a team the officials hate (or really you're just a crappy team) then you get to pick towards the beginning!!

They get by with a little help from their friends (the league and officials)...
