In any given year, there are between 800,000 and 1.5 million DUI arrests in this country, so although it's definitely a wake up call, I'd hardly say that he's screwed up his life.

Yeah dumb mistake but certainly not something that is going to ruin his life.

Let me clarify since people seem to want to tear a post to pieces these days.

Dude was traded and was going to be cut but now he's put his NFL life in jeopardy.

Also with all the money he already has he chose to drive himself. That seems like a move that does indeed put his life in jeopardy.

Not necessarily. He can still get charged with a DUI even if he blows under the limit. But .03 is damn low, like two beers.

DUI and DWI different, influence versus intoxicated, for him to get arrested the officer thought two things, he was either a danger to himself or others or Lane gave him a bad time about it. Chances are if it was a routine thing and Lane could have called a Uber or a cab and parked his car it would have been over, may have got a ticket but without the arrest. You also have to remember a lot of young guys especially wealthy and people that feel they are on a different level will try to pull do you know who I am stuff. Doesn't fly with a lot of cops if yor rude to them, tends to make them more pissed off.

Accused of DUI. He only blew a 0.03. A conviction is not a sure thing.

I think there's a 100% chance of dropped charges. What are they going to charge him with (assuming they didn't find pot or a pipe in his car)?

If he was reasonably sauced I could see them charging with something, but at 0.03? That's called sober. Unless they found something else to attribute his "intoxication" to, he's off.

The only way I could see a PA pushing this case would be if it involved a serious accident. Otherwise, there's not a snowball's chance in hell of getting a conviction on a BAC result that low.

There's also a chance that if that's all the evidence they have, that Lane could sue for false arrest as it has attracted considerable attention and could cause harm to his career.

Ahhh soooo... you win the prize today. He as much as admitted it the PD at the time. So, it's legal, but you can't smoke while driving or admit to have smoked ahead of driving. Kind of limits the fun.

Never, ever admit anything of the sort, kids. There's no way for them to prove you're high without you admitting it, is there? The only test for pot/THC that I know of merely shows whether it's in your adipose tissue (fat), which could be from you smoking it anytime in the last, what, month?

They now have a breathilizer for Pot as well, seen it on the news a while back. may not be binding yet but it can raise reasonable doubt which is all the cops need.

Lane probably was stoned. They can do a simple swab of saliva to test for THC levels. In Washington State that was a sort of concession for its legalization victory in 2012. I was close to voting against it back then due to such a concession. Being stoned is simply in another ballpark than being drunk, especially when it comes to operating a motor vehicle. I am not even a smoker (any more at least), but believe that smoking pot should be legal with certain age restrictions.

The driving under the influence infraction should be a different sort of crime for being high vs. drunk. Not sure where I'm going with this; sort of wish I could go take a toke!

Teams in legal Pot states like WA and CO are losing now cause they are high before, during, and after the games. Thats why you lose at home now and do better on the road unless you play the broncos

They haven't invented a device that can consistently or rather accurately determine if someone is high on cannabis or not.
It stays in your system long after the person is no longer stoned as evidenced by it taking about 4 weeks for it to clear before a urine test and it can show up even if a person is around someone else smoking it.
The problem is determining whether a person is high or not at the time of the test.

Come on man, you don't even know it's legal in your own state?

Cali just legalized something we will have to guard against, but Rams have discipline.

BTW I still live near St Louis
