Politics of Watching the Superbowl

I'm talking with Yoder as I type this and we are trying to figure out what to do... watching with friends, family, other folks, or people that know you but don't know others...?

When it's your team that's playing in it, then it's your call on who you want to watch it with.

For myself, I'm not going to watch this Super Bowl at a big party. They'll be 3 or 4 of us, max, and there's even an outside shot that I'll watch this one alone, which wouldn't bother me in the least.

I'm just not going to be that sociable during the game, lol. That's the bottom line. I don't want to be distracted by people who don't follow the NFL and are there just to socialize. Send 'em to the bar if they want that:)

my neighbor two doors down and I I have been watching games together all season. In fact we've been watching are Seahawks play ball ever since he moved into the neighborhood 10 years ago. We will be getting together and watching the game at my house along with a few friends. A couple of those friends happen to be Broncos fans so it should be a nice balance.we are going to do up some food and stuff but that will all be laid out before kickoff. Once the game starts, we will be watching every play every snap.I like the idea of having opposing fans there, adding versatility to the mix. As Rick James would say, "It's a celebration, bit€he$!!

Funny to see this topic pop up as I was just having this conversation with my wife last night.

I have a very exclusive list of people who I'll watch a Hawks game with. I don't want chit-chatting during plays, I don't want stupid questions, I don't want to hear how I "shouldn't take it so seriously", and I SURE AS H3LL don't want to hear about your fantasy team and how you "still want the Hawks to win, but not by too much because you have the other team's defense" that Sunday.

As such, deciding where to watch this one is a tough decision.

I WISH I could do that!!

Unfortunately I have to watch with family, one of them is my brother the Cowboys fan, who is rooting BIG TIME for Seattle (that's good thing, my brother in spite of his sad allegiance to a pathetic team knows his football!) but also with my father in law a huge Vikings fan who drives me crazy with his questions and dumb observations, and who will likely be rooting for Manning because he likes him, and with a whole bunch (probably about 10) of younger kids running around needing my attention, and making it impossible for me to REALLY get into the game like I would at a bar.
My language is a concern...I mean, how am I going to bite my tongue the first time the refs call something stupid in light of the 05 bowl experience?
How am I going to get into the game when I have to constantly break up arguments over toys, and every so often hear the call I've heard so often of, "Monkey can you wipe my butt?" after one of our kids took a dooker?

I will be watching the game by myself. And because its East Coast Time I will be watching the game at 725 in the morning. Still that's better than the 5am start times I had to watch reg season but for me it a shame that its on the East Coast.

Just realized....725AM. DAMN.

Its Chinese New Year celebrations over here for a week starting today, so I have to go to the in-laws on game day afternoon for the obligatory celebration of White Alcohol, New Year Candies, sticky rice, dumplings, and anything you can name. They take their New Year celebrations serious here. Thank god my Chinese wife, filters out the noise for me. She just tells me what we have to do, and I say ok! During this week at least. (It ain't easy to buck 5000 years of history, but when I buck I usually win, just not during Chinese New Year and some of the other traditional celebrations they have here). I love the firecrackers.

That being said, I will be drinking during the SB. It makes the pain not so intense if we lose, and it calms me down if we win. For me alcohol works the way it should work on a man. Its a nice depressant. Wife will have to drive car to the in-laws though, with me half asleep, since I will be drinking that day. She will be asleep throughout the game IMO, and wake up during half time. Everyone is on vacation here. My wife has been warned. She already knows that this is the most important day of the year for me outside of work.
I so enjoy watching the game in my beautiful apartment here in China. It is surreal almost!
I will be drinking coffee and drinking brandy, eating fruit, and some Chinese noodle buns my mother in law made for us. Really tasty actually. just started doing brandy a month ago, and its okay. Can't do it more than a couple times a week. Too sweet. But that will be my beverage during the game. Nuff said.

I'm taking this one for the team. Every time I watch alone, we win. Every time I go watch at a bar or another person's house we lose. And this year just having people watch it with me accounted for two losses. Also the last time we were in the Super Bowl I threw a huge party. I need not say more.

I'm not jinxing it this time.

I will be in the center of the big sectional upstairs, squarely in front of the big screen, fully stocked with more goodies than I can eat, cell phone at the ready so I can text my kids, outfitted in my Wilson jersey, my Seahawks jammy pants, and my Seahawks watch. And I will have escorted my family out of the house by game-time.

It's only crazy if it doesn't work. And it's going to work. We are going to get that damned Lombardi.

I will be alone on this one also. Both my wife and Son have to work. Though I would love to have my wife with me on this I will be good. I actually love watching by myself. That way if I want to go back and watch a play I have no one complaining.

Nearly 40 years ago, my dad called a friend over to watch the SB game with him. The following year, the friend returned the favor by inviting both my parents over to their home. The tradition of alternating SB hosts expanded to another family, and has continued uninterrupted for all these years.

My dad long since died, but the other family, 10-15 years younger, as well as my 88 year old mother, still alternate hosting a SB party and since my mom now lives in an adult apartment, my house has been substituted for hers. I hosted it last year, so it's the other families turn this year, so it will be my task this Sunday to go pick up my mom and take her to her friends house for the game.

It's a big deal for my mom. She spends most of the game organizing the gambling and peddling goodies to the guests whether she's the host or not. The only problem is that the live in Walla Walla, an hour drive away for me, but my wife will be acting as a designated driver.

My home phone will be unplugged, my cell phone off, blinds shut, surround sound and 60" tv on.

I can never go out to watch the game as I am (like Zorn said) not at all sociable during Hawks games. My 23 old son is a Broncos fan ( yes I still love him) and he knows not to come watch the game with Dad. It's just gonna be my wife, my Youngest Son (15) and myself watching the game.

I'm sure I will drink to much (another reason to stay home), swear and cheer a lot. After 6 years, my dog has finally realized what the craziness is about when the Hawks are playing, in fact instead of being scared when we cheer he actually jumps up and down and does 360's on the carpet while wearing his Seahawks collar.

Actually I like the 3:30pm start. Over by 7, home by 8:30. A 6:30pm start like it is on the east coast would be horrible IMO, esp. If you have to work the next day.
