Oh, I know- I also didn't really characterize the tone correctly. He's not necessarily supporting a trade, just predicting it (or at least 'shopping' for a trade).

Per Earl's cousin...(My wife teaches her at Lone Star College) He told her he wishes to finish his career in Texas.

You can believe me or not, doesn't matter. I will say however that this student did take an Earl jersey to him when they were in town in Dec. and got it signed at her house and my wife presented it to me for Christmas !!!!

Look what just popped up on my MSN news feed:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/te ... spartanntp

Without a 2nd or a 3rd, we unquestionably need draft picks, and next to Russell and perhaps Bobby Wagner, Earl is the highest value player on our roster, and with his holdout rumblings, JS has to be listening to offers.

I specifically asked my wife to question her (the cousin of ET) at school yesterday about this, and make no mistake,....

He told her, he wants to finish in Texas. Take it to the bank (just like Earl).

I still think Atlanta would be the perfect fit for him. He would line up alongside Neal who would be the equivalent of Kam and make them the best Secondary in the league.
If we could get their 1st round pick, it might help ease the pain.

From a talent perspective it would be a bit of a body blow, but a malcontent doesn't help much either and if he's gone after this contract then we might as well get something for him.

I don't doubt that he wants to finish in Texas, but the question is what does 'finish' mean. Does that mean his last big contract? Does that mean his last year or two? Either way we can try to extend him for at least a year and then we can still use the Franchise Tag on him if we want (at that point I believe it would be to try and trade him if he has refused our extension offers). ET's cap hit next year is 10.4 million. The F-Tag cost for a Safety is 10.8 million so it wouldn't cost us some crazy amount more than we are paying to F-tag him. Based on that I would say we have at least 2 years of team control for ET, which is when he will be at his prime. The obvious issue is how he responds to being F-tagged. I imagine he wouldn't respond very well, but at that point (in my scenario) we would have already tried to make him the highest paid safety in the league and he refused so who cares how he responds the F-tag would be so that we could trade him.

I don't know dude, thats what she said so take it for whatever worth you want. The guy is from an area near where I live and it's understandable. I love the guy as a Hawk player and respect his wishes.

I'm just reporting what we heard ok?

Huh? I'm not disagreeing with anything you said, in fact I said I don't doubt he wants to end his career in Texas. Meaning, I agree with you. I just said that the Hawks have 2 years to either work out a long term deal or trade him. I also was wondering what 'finish in Texas' meant. That could be his last year or two in the league. It could also mean his last big contract in the league. Keep on reporting what you hear, it's good information.

According to what I was told. He has informed the FO to trade him to Dallas if they cant give him a 3 year deal. So there ya go.

Forgive the emotion River, but how the hell did we end up without a 2nd or 3rd round pick!

Trades.
Sheldon Richardson and Duane Brown.
We're also without a 2nd next year.

3 Years isn't very long for a long term deal.
Maybe he thinks that at 32/33 he can then still play a year or 2 in Dallas.

That's good. I could easily see us giving him a 3 year deal... if those are his only demands seems like a no-brainer.

If we do trade Earl...and I'm hoping that we don't...then there wouldn't be much doubt left that we're in a rebuild mode.

Ayup. The 'retooling, not rebuiding' stuff Pete expressed a while back goes out the window if we're trading our best players for draft capital.

I dont know guys, I know with Brown it was necessary but your 2nd and 3rd rounders are your best bang for the buck. You still get a good FB player but they dont cost you an arm and a leg!!

That's right Burton, it isn't solid like my brothers, sisters roommate, has a cousin, who's son, went to school with this girl, who's hairdresser knows this bartender, who's niece met this teacher who said Earl wanted out of Seattle in the worst way.....

If you are referring to me, laugh away and find a pile of dookie to feast on because he told his cousin that. I could care less what you think about it. I shared it because my wife told me his cousin said it straight from Earl. Whay would I believe it?...because she took the jersey my wife bought me for Christmas and had it signed the same day as the game in Dallas.

Be a roach, you are good at it.

Thanks I will be... better than pretending to be in "the know" based on conjecture, and gut feelings. I'm good with knowing football, about football, and how football works. Don't need to be swayed by names, analysts, my wife who knows a cousin, who said he heard directly from a player... blah, blah, blah....

Convenient that that nugget, coincides with your "gut " lmfao.

TRADE HIM. He has been a brilliant player for us , but it is a business. Players do whats good for them , and so should the Seattle Seahawks. We need draft picks.

They are listening to offers and maybe actively seeking some type of deal, so maybe before the draft he will be dealt.
At this point, I would think teams would be low balling with their offers as it's just the beginning.
As the draft nears, and on draft day we may see more action if teams settle their boards and decide there isn't anyone they will be in a position to draft that might possibly compare.

I haven't heard anything about them seeking a trade for Earl, just that we're trying to work out an extension ... Bennett is the one we are rumored to be actively seeking a trade for (with Atlanta apparently, which makes sense).

You are NOT going to hear anything. The Hawks are about as hushed as Ryan Seacrest.

Free agency is a week away and things will still be quiet in Seahawk land. It's prior to the draft you will see action.

Eh, somebody comes in with right offer for any player, they'll listen... Thomas best player in Seattle, bar none. Rather trade anybody else, but they think it's worth it, they'll pull the trigger.

Only three players should be expected a huge haul from Thomas, Wagner, Wilson.... Thomas the best of the three by far.

They might be one of the "Other teams are discussing ET" group that has been mentioned.
Any deal will have to be done before the draft so the other team can negotiate a contract with him.
However, it's all guessing at this point for us fans.

The closer it get's to the draft the less likely we trade ET.

At this point, we need to keep him. He has to play this year, and we go from there.

I think there's lots of time at the moment, but it may take a few days to complete the trade should it occur to iron out the final language of the contract.

Not to beat a dead horse with this topic, but today's Tweet from ET is very telling. He became my favorite Seahawk the day he played his first preseason game with us, there was something special about the guy. I remember a certain play (pretty sure it was still preseason) where he got knocked the F out and laid on the turf for at least 10 seconds. He laid there for a while, then suddenly shook it off and literally jumped up from his back onto his feet. The resilience and drive was absolutely dumbfounding, this guy was all in.

Anyway, this Tweet is from the heart and straight from the source. It's two pages, so don't forget to click the "next" arrow.
