Especially since it said just "New York". Since there are two NFL teams in or about New York, no one ever refers to them by their surname.

Wilson keeping the baseball option open in case the OL remains a turnstile.

Russell doesn't have a baseball option. He hit poorly in the minors years ago. This is just a cheap PR gimmick.

Being a poor hitter didn't stop Jordan from giving baseball a shot. I'm not saying Wilson is going to give up football to play pro baseball, but I absolutely think he would love to play both sports if he could. That's the athlete mentality. Having said that, I think winning another SB is at the top of his list.

I think there's something to this but I just don't know what. Wilson's continuing flirtation with pro baseball concerns me as a Seahawks fan. It would certainly be easier on his body.

It doesn’t concern me too much... he’s going to be making $30 plus million/year in a few years to play football. Playing baseball he might make 200k... he’s not good enough to play MLB baseball. If he ever made it to the majors he is a minimum salary player. He would have to play baseball until he’s 80 to make what he would make in 1 year playing football

Yeah, if more money is the driver but it may not be. He's already filthy rich. What will more millions do for him? You can only spend so much. Why not do something you enjoy?

Great example. With his baseball background, Michael Jordan wouldn't have been given a shot at baseball if his name was Joe Jones. Same goes for Russell. Jordan also wanted to play on the PGA tour.

There's only been a couple of players in my memory that had viable dual major league sports careers in the past 40 years or so: Danny Ainge, Bo Jackson, and Dion Sanders. John Elway used a possible baseball career as a bargaining chip when he first came out of college. Prior to that, it used to be a little more common, but not a lot.

I have no idea why the Yankees would trade for the rights to Wilson, but I think Wilson is just scratching an itch.
He's always loved Baseball and wanted to be a Yankee since he was a kid, so it's something crossed off on his bucket list. Again, I don't know what the Yankees get out of it.

It's the slowest time of the year for sports. Football is done and free agency doesn't start for another couple of weeks, nor does baseball's spring training. March Madness doesn't begin until...uh, March, and the NBA is miles away from the playoffs. This gets the Yankees a headline. Maybe someone will buy a couple of advance $15 seats at a spring training game in the hopes of seeing Russell turn a double play in pinstripes.
