And if we sign neither Richardson or Suh? Then what?

Suh is far more than a run stuffer. We were hoping Richardson would be more than a run stuffer, but it didn't work out. Suh can collapse the middle and pressure the QB. He's like an ideal for this type of defense. Pete's been looking for his stud interior rusher for ages, though it hasn't had much of an effect on the quality of our defense due to our insanely good secondary.

He USED to be, those years are in the past, if Seattle was looking for more pass rush, they just traded him, and he was cheaper.

Seattle doesn't need sacks from their D tackles, never, ever have to get to the Quarterback, at least while they were most successful. That's a new desire, not a necessity. Anyone claiming they do, missed the 6 years of dominance that defense had entirely.... during that stretch, Mebane was the most dominant D tackle they had, no Richardson, certainly no Suh was needed during that stretch, and it isn't needed now. Understand the swing and miss at Richardson, it's clear they felt the window was pretty much closed... but to put yourself back in the same position, during a rebuild, no matey how minor, is crazy.

4 or 5 sacks from a D tackle for 15m a year, isn't a bargain. Sorry, I'll stick with my opinion that high priced d tackles aren't a necessity.

I have NO RESPECT for any of you posters who seem to b3 DROOLING over the prospect of Suh becoming a Seahawk! What SACRILEDGE!!!

Suh ruind our season a year and a half ago when he STEPPED on Russell Wilson. How quickly most of you have forgotten! How COULD you forget? How you forget what many of you said then? and also said EVERY time Suh has done these UNSPORTEMANLIKE actions!

Really disgusting people, all of you who are drooling over a DIRTY player like Suh, Who's next? Richie Incognito? OH BOY he could really bolster our O-Line, you gonna start drooling over the prospect of having Incognito on our team??

You know, SPORTSMANSHIP does matter, and HOW you WIN and WHO you WIN with MATTERS MORE than Winning at all costs including your MORALS.

But that's it isn't it, many have decided that winning at all costs is the ONLY THING.

The joke is on YOU PEOPLE, our Seahawks will NEVER AGAIN win the Super Bowl as long as Pete Carroll is the Head Coach. You heard it here FIRST people.

It is not that I want Pete to fail, its just that I KNOW that he WILL FAIL. He cannot get out of his own way, and besides, he is intellectually dishonest with both the fans and the press. He is snobbishly hypocritical and tends to carry a grudge. Pete got rid of Sherm because Sherm starte3d the push to get Bevell fired and Pete decide3d that if he had to fire Bevell them Sherman had to go to or he would lose respect in the locker room.

What Pete don't know or refuses to understand is that he has LOST the LOCKER ROOM already. Case in point, ET RUNNING not walking over to the Dallas Cowboy's locker room to tell their HC to "come and get him". When a player the STAURE of Earl Thomas wants OFF the team that drafted him and that he played in 2 Super Bowls with WANT OUT there are REAL PROBLEMS in the locker room.

What about this situation do MANY of you NOT UNDERSTAND????????

Pete WILL FAIL, that is a given.

Brock Huard also disagrees with you. And guess what????... D Tackle is second to franchise QB in the draft, and F.A. That's why they get paid, for the disruption of a teams game plan.

We are getting a brand new shiny fresh out of the factory team in 2018. It will take some time to learn how it handles but should get alot better mileage in the end.

Suh is still dominant. He still gets doubled on a regular basis yet was one of the top 5 most disrupting DTs last year and the #1 DT at making plays behind the LOS (TFL + sacks). When our D was dominant we were getting constant pressure on QBs. We were able to do that with ‘nascar’ packages when our D was truly dominant, but have failed to constantly get pressure in the past 2 years. If you aren’t going to have All-Pro guys in the secondary you must have a pass rush. To stop The running game you have to get DTs that either eat up blockers or require Double teams Suh does that.

This is too funny. You are delusional if you think Suh purposely stepped on RW’s foot, come on. How is it that you can say Pete will fail when he has shown the complete opposite? He already hasn’t failed. He won a SB took us to back to back SBs and has led us on the best run the hawks have ever had. You need to get over the Sherman stuff. He is injured and was going to cost us $13 million!!!! That is why we cut him. I have no doubt we would have re-signed him to a smaller deal. Any team that would keep that much $$$ on an injured player whith 1 year left on their contract would be stupid. They needed cap space and could safe $11 mill. Many people, including myself, mentioned that he could be gone long before the season was over!!!! What do you NOT UNDERSTAND???????!!

Nobody has any patience in todays world, me included, but you're right it will take some time.
Maybe it will be a little like the years 2012 and 2013 where we could see the development right before our eyes.
That was a fun ride, but it didn't happen over night.

There will be a couple of players that will be cut because of Cap issues/continued FA, as well as draft picks replacing them.
Sylvester Williams might be a good fit and Jonathan Hankins are two that come to mind at the moment but there will be others, too.
Look at JS history with FA's. He rarely bites on the first few days for high priced players, but often gets value once the initial feeding frenzy finishes.
We'll see if it works again this year.

That would be crazy. They have the cap room. There is no real reason that it won't work. The Rams are going all in for the SB and this signing would be pretty crazy. Here's to hoping it doesn't happen, but if it does that is bad news for the Hawks.

man!!!!! That would be awesome Donald and Suh they both sort of look the same

Rams have #1 QB and best lines and shutdown corners

My revised NFC West prediction: Esp if we get Suh and based on FA work

Rams 16-0
Niners 12-4
ARZ 8-8
Sea 2-14

They still have to pay Donald.
If they signed Suh and not yet signed Donald, what might be the repercussions?
Would Donald play out his contract to go to FA next year or would he demand more than what Suh got because it's Donald that's the Defensive star? Would he hold out until he got paid?
Their Cap room could be eaten up pretty quickly if they did sign him. It might be a dangerous game with a much younger star playing the same position.

You're right, the NASCAR package was indeed most successful.... guess what WASN'T in that package.... I'll give you a hint... it rhymes with duper extensive apprehensive spakle... BENNETT was D tackle, CHEAP pass rush specialist, Irvin and Avril.... I must have missed the Suh, Richardson, Donald in that lineup... or maybe the CHEAP DT alternatives actually worked, just like I said....

Sure there is, Suh is, and has always been an undisciplined player that forego's responsibilities based on hunches, Donald is an explosive player that remains disciplined, that's what makes him 10x the player Suh has, or will ever be.

Getting those things ironed out take time, especially, if a player isn't used to playing second fiddle, and if they are even WILLING to adjust.

That’s my point... we don’t have Irvin, Avril, and Bennett. I wouldn’t call them ‘cheap,’ either. Avril and Bennet had cap hits between $8-10 mil. I was advocating to sign Suh if he were in the $12 mil range, which I wouldn’t call super expensive. At that time we had 3 legitimate guys that could get to the QB which allowed guys like Haword and Mcdonald to get to the QB. I’m all for getting guys like Avril and Bennett in their prime who we can get for 9 mil/ year. Let me know when you see some and I’ll be right there with you wanting to sign them instead of Suh. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen so signing a dominant DT who constantly requires double teams could really open up a pass rush for guys like Clark, Jones, and Jordan. As it is it’s a moot point anyway because it looks like he’s probably going to get more than 12 mil and it doesn’t look like there’s a ton of interest on our part.

When I said there’s no real reason it won’t work out I was referring to the fact that there was nothing really stopping them (cap wise) from not being able to stop the Rams from signing him. As far as if they sign him will it work out I think it is a scary thought for our O, but of course there are dynamics that might make it difficult on the field. The contract issue between the Rams and Donald is one as is how much they would pay Suh.

Think you're mistaking my cheap pass rush specialist DT with Bennett and Avril there. ( and at the time they were indeed "cheap" , 11m COMBINED between Avril and Bennett ) ... regardless, there is pass rush DT, run stop DTs throughout the NFL, the idea you need a "dominant, pass rush, and run stuff DT" is a NEW idea, and one that has not paid dividends to any team that has invested in that position, with the exception of the Rams last season, and last season alone.

How many rings Richardson, Suh, and Donald got between them? Zero is it? How many top flight defenses they been a part of, a couple? Nah, 15m for an overpriced DT is not a recipe for success, and really never has been. They have always, and will always be a piece of the puzzle, but far lower in importance to ends, linebackers and DBs. It simply isn't an area teams looking to improve should put a serious emphasis on.

Ultimately, Richardson younger and more productive than Suh, if Seattle wasn't willing to go to 12m a year for a better, younger, more dominant player, WHY in the world would they for a player on the downhill side of their career, with 0 championship experience, and less success.... Suh hasn't been dominant in what? 5 seasons? Not a good way to spend limited cap space.

It simply isn't an area teams looking to improve should put a serious emojis on.

What about Warren Sapp, Reggie White, and our own Cortez Kennedy? A great defense is about using your best pieces in an optimal fashion. It so happened our best pieces ended up being our secondary for a while there. If our best piece was a D-tackle, doesn't mean it will hurt your defense to sign a quality, expensive DT. You can point out as many defenses that have been great with a powerhouse DT as haven't. That's no way to judge a defense. Fact is we need some quality replacements on our defense. If one of those is Suh, I'm all for it. If anyone can put a player like Suh to good use, it is Pete. He knows how to best use a disruptive 3-tech D-tackle. It's a longshot that we sign him, but I still say a middle of Suh, Wagner, and Earl would be one of the strongest middles in the league. It's too bad Suh can't see how great he could be here.

Reggie played end, Tez as much as I love him won how many championships in Seattle again? Sapp was indeed dominant, but again, even Tampa said goodbye when his dominance faded. You're advocating signing a player PAST his prime, to big money, that has always been undisciplined, with zero team success, and on field mental issues.

Seattle's success has always come from ACTIVE interior lineman, not DOMINANT interior lineman, and I don't see any reason to break the bank to get something that can be replicated for 1/4 of the cost. Having a name and performing aren't the same thing. I want wins not headlines.

Ian Rapoport is saying that Suh has his list narrowed to 3 teams that don't include us:

Free agent DT Ndamukong Suh’s visit to the #Raiders is now off, sources tell me and @MikeSilver. He’s back home and not likely to make a decision today. The #Rams made a strong impression on him, but he’s also considering the #Saints & #Titans. Nothing done yet.

As John Schneider heads back to the bargain basement...

The Championship talk is rubbish. We could do that all day with every position including QB. Championships are rare no matter what your team composition is or what position your great players play. Just one example, Great RBs are a waste of time. How many championships did Barry Sanders win? Oh wait, Emmett Smith won three rings. So we need a great RB. Basing your thinking on championships is a bad way to build a team considering you could argue any position one way or the other.

Interior rushing D-lineman get paid because if you find one, it can really solidify your defense for years. Problem is so many of the big lunkheads don't understand that as good as they are, they are still once piece on an 11 person defense. If they don't have good guys behind them, then they won't make much of a difference. The reality is only a great QB makes enough of a difference to justify the insane pay. DTs do not justify break the bank pay, that's about the only thing I'll agree with.

Suh for the right price, even if high to the fans, would be a good investment in my opinion. A strong middle defense is highly desirable. This Seattle has always relied on cheap, interior lineman has more to do with not being able to find a high quality middle guy because they are so rare.

And Philly just won. They have Fletcher Cox, who was a great 3-tech but because a 3-4 DE (the equivalent of a 3 tech in a 4-3 like we run). That must mean you need a great 3-tech/3-4 DE to win a championship. They even beat the mighty Patriots with their generous QB. They did it without a franchise QB, which means you must not need one of those either.

All you Hawk fans who seemed to have lost your morals and want to win at "any cost" have another chance at Suh because the Jets realized their mistake and have withdrawn their offer.

I supposed the same people who are drooling for Suh would also give their left nut for that other dirty player O-Lineman Richie Incognito too??

The Hawks under Pete will NOT be worth rooting for until he is GONE.

SH4E, I like you, but after Sherm was cut, you have just gone off the rails buddy. Remember, this is not real life, football is about fun, and fandom We are love him or not, stuck with Pete for 2 more years.

NO, I do not want Suh, but some do, but it's for a better team, not about their morals. I questioned some peoples morals voting for Trump, but I was wrong.
