Jets trade up

The Jets traded up three spots, from the #6 overall to the Colt's #3 overall. Here's what they gave up:

Their own #6 overall and two second rounders, the #37 overall and the #49 overall, the pick they acquired from us for Sheldon Richardson.

They are obviously after one of the top 3 quarterbacks but there was a really good chance that one of them would have been there anyway. Of the teams ahead of them, the Browns have two of the 5 picks, the Colts aren't in the market, and the Broncos just got through signing Case Keenum. Obviously the Broncos may have wanted to take a top 3 QB anyway, but that sure seems like a high price to pay for essentially one slot at best and completely unnecessary at worst.

Comments?

3 2nd rounder's??!!!??? a little steep! 2nd rounder's are the best bang for the buck.

2-second rounders, for exchanging spots with the Colts in the first.

Actually #6 first, #37 second, #49 second PLUS a 2019 second round.

Thanks for the correction, Clem. I missed the 2019 pick.

And we're reminded why the Jets are coming up on their 50th anniversary since their SB win.

This is just stupid on their part to cough up this much draft capital for a QB class that has some depth, but no real star to gamble on like this. Not at that price.

It seems they think there are only 3 elite, can't miss prospects in this draft and they are determined to get one of them.
I think it's foolish considering there should be a real good player at #6 and maybe one of those they determined to be elite could be there then.
Then again, there's the old saying that the team that ends up with the best player wins the trade, so if which ever player they get turns out to be a perennial Pro Bowl player for the next decade, it will have worked out for the best.

The Colts made out like bandits. They're going to still get a real stud at #6 overall, perhaps the very same player they would have had at #3, plus all those 2nd round picks. If you are a Colts fan, there's nothing not to like about this trade.

No matter how good the player the Jets take at #3 turns out to be, there's not much that can go wrong from the Colts perspective.

Yup, the Colts had that haul just land in their lap. They should be able to use it for some real good players.
Timing is everything and the new coaching staff should be able to get some real good players into their program early in their regime.

Crap! That makes me feel old. I remember watching that game.
