He's not worth even considering for a backup role now.
He was cut immediately.

Let's wait at least until police file charges before we throw him off the planet. All the article said was that police are investigating.

Having said that, it's pretty hard to break a jaw on both sides by accident. It sounds pretty bad.

Seriously the Hawks should teak a look at Manziel. Looks like he is trying to turn it around and all he was was a happy party too much guy.

After all the the character issues and distractions this team has had, I would be seriously disappointed in JS if he looked at Johnny Football. We have Austin Davis to re-ink, then find one in the draft.

No on Manziel or RG3. Their talent doesn't overcome their bigger flaws (mental/maturity for manziel, fragility for rg3)

In my mind, Manziel has turned a corner spiritually. I'm not so worried about that but the question in my mind is are his skills what they used to be when we saw him make those amazing plays in college. He's gotten a little older now and hasn't been in uniform for a while. He hasn't played in an NFL game since the end of the 2015 season. To be effective he must be very quick and mobile. That's his style. Does he still have it?

He should be out of the league for good if this is true.

Manziel? RG3? I'm surprised that someone hasn't mentioned Kaepernick.

Boykin wasn't even on the 53 man roster last year, so what's all the fuss about?

Kap would be a good signing as a backup.
There's also talk about Sanchez who Carroll coached in college and Schottenheimer coached to Sanchez's best year with the Jets.

I'd be OK with either.

Still waiting to see Manziels talent at NFL level. With or without his stupidity off the field, I've never seen really an inkling of a successful NFL Quarterback in Manziel. Lacks leadership, discipline, accuracy, arm strength, size, decision making....only plus thing I've seen is his elusiveness.

If he has actually matured and isn't just acting to get a roster spot, he might actually have some discipline, leadership, and decision making. He could also improve his accuracy if he matured enough to let himself be coached.

Yeah, fun to watch in college but lacks too many NFL QB qualities. One interesting tidbit from his workout was that many were saying he is more accurate now than he was coming out of college. If true, that would show that he really has been putting the work in. The idea of signing him to compete for a backup job is ok... if he actually won the backup job I would be scared. I thought Austin Davis looked better than him anyway.

Isn't there enough drama with our team already? He would be clipboard poison.

You got that right! We don't need a Michael Bennett repeat.

I was OK with Davis, too, so I don't know why all the fuss about letting go a QB that was #3 on the depth chart.

I don't see that there is a lot of fuss, but nobody goes to camp with only 2 QB's, and I'm certain that Pete would rather see a serious competition for the #2 spot than just deciding before camp that Davis is the guy.

We're going to bring somebody else in, I'm just guessing as to whom it may be.

I understand that we'll have at least a couple of candidates competing for the backup spot. I'm just rather amused at the ensuing conversation, particularily the discussion about Manziel's skills, all because we released a guy that was third on the depth chart and never suited up for a regular season game last year. It must be the offseason if this is the most pressing matter that gathers our attention.

Back to the OP. Boykin vehemetly denies the allegations and has made a statement:

12:15 PM PT -- Boykin released the following statement:

"I understand the Seahawks decision to release me. The story that was reported casts a bad light on the organization and on me.
I want to be clear that the story is false. The police have taken statements from the accuser, another witness and me. All of these statements confirm that I was not involved in the physical altercation.

This woman has lied about me and it has cost me my job. I know guilt by association is real. This person has fabricated a story and I am suffering the consequences.

I will let the legal system run its course and I know I will be vindicated."

Boykin was arrrested yesterday after police reviewed a video that supposedly recorded at least part of the incident.

Sounds like more than part of the incident:

3:31 PM PT -- Mansield PD just released a statement saying the alleged assault was captured on video cameras inside the residence.

Detectives got a search warrant last week, and seized the footage. MPD says they reviewed the footage today ... before an arrest warrant was issued for Boykin.

He can cry innocence all he wants, it's tough to beat video evidence.

Yuppers, especially when they can tie the video evidence to the physical evidence of the injuries suffered by the victim. If the police saw the video and subsequently decided to arrest Boykin, then it's probably pretty convincing.

Boykin is accumulating quite a rap sheet and could be looking at some major jail time if he's convicted. It's sad to see a young man like him screwing up his life.

I think either way he's done here and probably in the NFL.
You can't make stupid mistakes in the NFL unless you are a superstar - and even then it can end pretty quickly and/or you can lose a lot of money.

Brady Henderson of ESPN offered some insights as to who the Hawks might bring in to compete for the backup job...and they don't include RG3, Kaepernick, or Johnny Football:

Kap was mentioned as there was no explanation as to why they didn't sign him, but I could see him on this roster this year and would be completely comfortable with it.
Other than Clemens, in my view the others are possibilities as they have some good mobility and it wouldn't be a stretch to think a QB drafted in the later rounds could be in the cards.
In any case, they have to add at least 2 more just for "Camp Arms".
