Adam Schefter is reporting that Sebastian Janikowski is meeting with the Seahawks tomorrow. He only missed one kick under 50 yds last season and has hit over 80% for the last three seasons.

I’m in for bringing in any kicker we can get our hands on.

I hope his back holds up this year and we also get some young legs in camp, too.

How old is this guy anyway? I'm almost 67 and I think he was playing for the Raiders when I was a teenager.

He's 40, in the league for 18 years, so unless 50 is the new 18, you weren't a teenager. :)

Classy statement in saying goodbye to the Raiders fans.

Yea, if he stays healthy he will beat out the others I believe. Strong, strong leg.

I don't think age is a big deal. In 14 games, Morten Anderson hit 89% of his FG attempts when he was 47 years old, and this guy has a stronger leg than Anderson had. This is a good signing. Hopefully we've learned our lesson on skimping on kickers.

I’m not too worried about his age either, I am a little worried about him as a kicker, though. Last year a FG % of 85 would have ranked 18th in the league (not great). In his career he has only had a FG percentage of 85 or higher 6 times. He’s been below that 11 times. That lower percentage is partially due to the fact that he attempts more 50+ yarders than the average kicker although in the last few years he would’ve be in the 10-15 range on those attempts. Further more he has been in the 60%-70% 6 times in his career, which is basically what Walsh was last year. I’m not saying he isn’t an upgrade (hard not to be after last year) but at best he has been an inconsistent kicker most of his career. IMO we are still looking for our next kicker.

I think most teams are looking for the long term answer at K if they don't already have one.
As far as his health goes, back problems can be a real bother so they better have a backup plan should he hurt himself again and at 40, recurrences of injuries seem to happen with lesser effort.
At least that was my experience a couple of decades ago.

Good points, guys.

One of the points that hasn't been discussed is that Janikowski is not a dome kicker. Most of the domes and retractable roof stadiums are in the NFC, and coming from the AFC West, he's not even able to kick on artifical turf very often. He's had to kick from the surface of the only football stadium that still hosts a MLB team, sometimes off infield dirt.

Good point, RD.
I didn't watch too many Raiders games, but I did see his plant foot slip on an occasion or two when he was on the infield dirt.
He might be better where the footing is consistent even at 40.
