c_hawkbob's Three Deep Mock

Postby c_hawkbob » Mon Apr 23, 2018 5:28 am

apologies for getting this out so close to the draft, I didn't realize it was so close ... (Kids and grandkids moved out and me and the wife just moved to an apartment all by ourselves (YAY!) so I've been distracted). Anyhow, here goes:

Choose 3 potential players per pick that we have at right now, the first of the three that you list for a round is the pick you'd choose if it were a one round Mock.

Scoring:
- 1 point for each player that we draft
- 1 point for the correct round drafted
- 1/2 point for each player from your mock that we sign as UDFA’s
- 1/2 point for a player you have listed first in a round.

Here's mine:
Round 1 (18)
1- OT Connor Williams Texas
2- CB Josh Jackson Iowa
3- WR Courtland Sutton SMU

Round 4 (120)
1- OG Braden Smith Auburn
2- ER Hercules Mataafa Washington St
3- WR Simmie Cobbs Indiana

Round 5 (141)
1- S Troy Apke Penn St
2- DL DaShawn Hand Alabama
3- OG Jamarco Jones Ohio St

Round 5 (146)
1- S Kyzir White West Virginia
2- SS Godwin Igwebuike Northwestern
3- DE Kylie Fitts Utah

Round 5 (156)
1- DT Jullian Taylor Temple
2- RB Bo Scarbrough Alabama
3- LB Trevon Young Louisville

Round 5 (168)
1- LB Azeem Victor Washington
2- RB Darrel Williams LSU
3- TE Troy Fumagalli Wisconsin

Round 7 (226)
1- FB Nick Bawden San Diego State
2- NT Poona Ford Texas
3- T Brett Toth Army

Round 7 (248)
1- G Aaron Evans UCF
2- DB Siran Neal Jacksonville State
3- TE Will Dissly Washington

We trade out of the 18 spot, which is not news. I doubt few in here think we would. I’ll try to rattle off some names before the draft.... how in the world did time fly by so quickly?

We actually have four 5th round picks. Don't forget 5 (168). 3 more selections for Bob and NorthHawk. I'll do my picks tomorrow. Best of luck everyone!

Hmmm, I got my list from Huddle Report, which has always been reliable ... and they're showing it now .... guess I'm just getting old. I'll make the revision, thanks Go!

Unfortunately, I can't remember them at the moment.

I have the same picks that Bob does: 18, 20,141,146,156,168,226 & 248. I think sports journalists and draft junkies (including most off us) assume there will be at least one or two trades.

That said, here I go - some of these guys are in the wrong round, just hoping to get points.

1- Mike McGlinchey, OT - Norte Dame (I know, I know... a girl can dream)
2- Christian Kirk, WR - Texas A&M
3- Josh Jackson, CB - Iowa

Round 4 (120)
1- Andrew Brown, DE - Virginia
2- Kalen Balldage, RB - Arizona
3- Kemoko Turay, DE - Rutgers

Round 5 (141)
1- Holton Hill, CB - Texas
2- Tony Brown, CB - Bama
3- Shaquem Griffin, LB - UCF

Round 5 (146)
1- Natell Jamerson, S - Whole pack of Badgers
2- Jacob Pugh, LB - Florida State
3- Josh Sweat, DE Florida

Round 5 (156)
1- Dorance Armstrong, DE - Kansas
2- Austin Corbet, G - Nevada
3- Will Dissley, TE -Udub

Round 168
1- Ronnie Harrison, S - Bama
2- Breeland Speaks, DE - Ole Miss
3- Isaiah Oliver, CB - Colorado

Round 7 (226)
1- Poona Ford, DT - Texas
2 - Keith Kirkwood, WR - Temple
3- Brett Toth, OT - Army

Round 7 (248)
1- Kyle Allen, QB - Houston
2 - Derek Nnadi, DT - Florida
3- Abdullah Anderson, DT - Bucknell

Thanks Bob for posting this. I love reading it but have no clue about participating in it. I like watching the draft and being like Christmas morning - totally surprised by who we get. LOL Its Christmas in April...

I am "ALL IN" A POUND 4 A PENNY!!!

Sure, some had him in the 2nd. round but by the time we didn't have a 2nd. rounder so this is the best we could do, which isn't bad at all.

A solid pick, once you build an O-Line for him to run behind...

I know I might be in the minority but we might already have the oline we need. Here's why I think this.

1. We have a new OC, a new offensive line coach and a whole new scheme. I think once we get the players back into a structure they understand and can play with, we will see just how good these kids really are. We have some really powerful guys on our oline and they will move people off the ball but not if you take that powerful road grader and expect them to finesse their way around the LOS.

So this kid (Penny) I've watched the last few years as he's played against BSU. He's powerful, fast, can catch, jump cut and so much more. If he stays healthy (which has not been a problem with him so far), he will be a Doug Martin type runner for us.

It wouldn't surprise me if we went OL late - maybe one of the 5th round picks.
Again this year, Offensive production depends on the OL and if it can get its act together enough for the RBs to get past the LoS.
The next pick is 76. I wonder if Shaquem Griffin is their target? Pete talked about team speed being a problem and they need a young LB, so maybe the 3rd round if he's still there?

Yeah, I agree with you on this. We need more defense now. I could see us going OL in the 5th but it would probably be our last 5th rd. pick we use on it. Maybe WR but that's it on offense. We should get back a number of injured players on the OL to start the season off so I think most of who we will have is who is there now unless someone great comes available in FA after the June 1 cuts.

Congrats to me for winning it this year with 3 points, two for correct player and one for getting Jamarco Jones' round right.

other scoring:

ObS came in in second by checking all the boxes and getting 2.5 points on one correct pick!

Sis got 2 points for that same pick and round, but not as her primary pick for that round

North got 2 points with 2 two correct picks

govandals did the same.

Thanks for playing everyone!

You're absolutely right! These are the standings as of now. We'll check back after the UDFA signings.

I guess I’m not following the rules. I had Shaquem at 141. 1 pt player, 1 point right round and then Will Dissley in the wrong slot for another point. Right? I mean it’s not that big of a deal, but I don’t get it. Bob had the correct dude/correct round and correct dude wrong round-same as me. And I love you for doing this and putting up with me, Bob. Xoxox

Scoring:
- 1 point for each player that we draft
- 1 point for the correct round drafted
- 1/2 point for each player from your mock that we sign as UDFA’s
- 1/2 point for a player you have listed first in a round.

I didn't put Shaquem on my list, I honestly thought he was too small for OLB or Leo type. I know everyone wanted him, but I couldn't do it.
I put a few CB's on my list with length (Brandon Facyson, Simeon Thomas and Christian Campbell), I never looked at a safety to CB conversion, (Flowers). Of course, having Maxy back in the fold changed the CB situation.
I liked Penny but figured PCJS would have him lower based on his SPARQ rating and the fact he runs very upright. I felt much better about it after reading he led the nation in yards after contact, broken tackles, yards after hit behind the LOS and that another team tried to trade for his rights after we selected him. (Patriots?). Evidently, Cleveland was going to take him at 33. If he is half as good as that other SDSU RB, we will be fine!
Loved the Rasheem Green pick.
Jamarco Jones was not on my radar at all. He tested poorly in the SQARQ ratings. Injury?? He is known as being a good technician and played at Ohio State. I hope he turns out to be a steal. We drafted Justin Senior last year despite a poor SPARQ score.
P/PK/QB I figured they would address after the draft. Surprised they took a punter, and even traded up for him. Looks like the Ginga Ninja may be gone! Lots of great memories with Jon Ryan. Best of luck to him!
I don't know anything about Jacob Martin, more research to do...
Nick Chubb was the RB I wanted most. Maybe the injury history scared us away, maybe he is too similar to Chris Carson.
I would have liked to see these guys as Seahawks: Duke Ejiofor, Arthur Brown, Andrew Miller, Tim Settle.
Thanks Bob for doing this mock. It's much fun! And congrats on your victory!!

You misspelled Dissly Sis. I don't count that against you in the scoring but I see who got what pick correctly with the 'find' feature on a word document so if the spelling ain't correct I don't see it ... you know I would short you on purpose ... I'll revise the scoring as I include the UDFA's.

I had Rasheem Green on my list but took him off for some reason - probably read about his knee injury in High School.
I find them selecting Tre Flowers as a CB and not Safety very interesting. I wonder if they intend to make him this version of Brandon Browner - a bit of an enforcer at CB.
He's 6-3, 202 lbs with long arms, so he physically fits the profile.

Scoring update:

OK, after accounting for UDFA's and Sis' spelling error ;) we have a new winner!

Sis 4 points:
Shaquem Griffin in the correct round = 2 points
Will Dissly in the wrong round and wrong spelling = 1 point
UDFA Jacob Pugh = .5 points
UDFA Poona Ford = .5 points

c_hawkbob 3.5 points:
Jamarco Jones in the round right = 2 points
Will Dissly = 1 point
UDFA Poona Ford = .5 points

NorthHawk 3 points:
Shaquem Griffin = 1 point
Tre Flowers = 1 point
UDFA Poona Ford = .5 points
UDFA Skyler Phillips = .5 points

ObS 2.5 points:
Shaquem Griffin in the correct round and as his primary pick = 2.5 points

govandals 2 points:
Rasheem Green = 1 point
Will Dissly = 1 point

That's how I have it anyway, if anyone else has it different by all means speak up!

Bobby.... I would never think you would short me or be anything but a dear. I seriously just didn't get it. & although admittedly competitive, I wasn’t trying to politic my way to a win, either. I appreciate you doing this year after year more than you know. Sorry if it felt like I was picking nits (& with a spelling error, too). :o ;)

I actually got Skyler Phillips as a UFA, too but I spelled his name Skylar just to confuse things.
It won't make much difference, but it will separate me into 3rd all alone.

Thanks for doing this cbob. I didn't participate again this year because I don't have the time to do the due diligence to do it right. But it's always fun to read through the thread and see other peoples picks. Hopefully next year or in the future I will be able to actually participate. This is a really neat and fun competition, thanks for doing it!

It's harder than it looks because you tend to lean towards players you like instead of trying to figure out the players our FO likes.
Even then, they make a lot of selections that are surprises, but make sense when you examine what they might bring to the team.
