Expected, but a serious bummer nonetheless.

Forever a favorite Kam, best of luck in whatever comes next!

Best of luck post-football to Kam! Guy gave us his all and had some amazing moments out there. Damn. Earl rides alone now.

^^This^^

I'd have been dumbstruck hearing otherwise, but still hate to see an all-time great Seahawk calling it quits.

Does anyone remember the interview where he was talking about the tattoo on his shoulder that reads "Bam"? His goal was to imprint his tat on every opponent he came into contact with. Imagine yourself taking one hit...I'd be in the hospital for a month.

To quote some of the YouTube comments: "Vernon Davis was never the same after this".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78qF72JwJwA&feature=youtu.be

The guy was our defensive version of the Beast Mode. I'm sad to see him go, but glad to see him get out before he (or anyone else) ended up getting hurt even worse. I'm sure there's a collective sigh across 31 teams in the NFL right now, as in Thank God we don't have to game plan for this guy. Best to you Kam, thanks for everything you've done for the Hawks...it was one hell of a show!

He was like having Ken Easley back for a short time. He gave up his body for the game.

Yes, parts of his game certainly did remind one of Easley and his career path was very similar in that it ended prematurely via injury.

I agree with all the comments made above and in support of Kam. He's a sure fire addition to our ROH. The only thing I have against him is his holdout.

I echo the supportive comments above, but with his style of play he was destined to have a short career.
He accomplished a lot in that time with multiple Pro Bowls, 2nd team All Pros, and a SB ring.
A wonderful achievement for a 5th round pick who many thought didn't have what it takes to make it in the NFL.
The RoH awaits him, but I'm not sure he will make it to Canton.

Kam played for us longer than Kenny did. When you give up your body like that on every hit it gets used up fast ...

Kam and Kenny are 1 and 1A (you choose the order, I'm fine either way) as the best SS in Seahawks history. I think Kenny covered better and Kam maybe hit a bit harder. And that's not sacrilege Obi, Kenny thinks so to:

“He hits with a great deal of conviction, and I’m pretty sure that when he hits you, you feel it. Speed-wise, we were probably somewhere close. But I would imagine that his pop is a little bit bigger than my pop was.’’

I'm really happy he retired as a Seahawk. My only problem with him was his holdout, too. My favorite player on the team.

Certainly not first ballot but I think he gets there within his lifetime.

Kam was never quite the same player after his holdout. Easley was at the top of his game his entire career, making 2nd team All Pro in what turned out to be his final season. Sure fire ROH, but I don't think he gets a gold jacket.

His holdout was unfortunate that we also had a new coordinator that year. I don't think he ever really got back into the swing of the defense that year. I think he also carried a bit of a grudge after not getting the team to cave that year. He would still hit people occassionally but not as frequently as he did before.

At least he didn't pull a Hamlin at a bar...

It was also immediately following one of the most devastating losses in NFL history. We lost our first two games during his holdout, at least one of which his absence was a critical factor (on the road vs. the Rams). Although I'll stop well short of blaming Kam alone for our demise, in retrospect, one can draw a straight line tracing our slide from a starting point at Kam's holdout after what was nearly two consecutive Lombardi's to our current situation where players lost respect for Pete requiring that he blow up the team. He was never the same player and we were never the same team.

I'll always appreciate what he did for us in helping bring us our only Lombardi and the best era of Seahawk football, but I'll also never forgive him for that holdout.

Totally agree. Without his setting the tone in the SB against Denver I don't know if our win would have been as big as it was. I also agree with your earlier point (that I deleted in this response) that his holdout was a devastating event for the team.

Thanks for showing me how to play the game the right way.

Love you bro.

I completely agree that Kam set the tone in the 48 SB. His hit on Thomas which separated Thomas shoulder sent a message to Denver that their year long offensive strategy of picks and rub routes and relying on yards after catch wasn't going to fly against the LOB. He laid another horrendous lick on welker later in the game. The following year he played very well with a damaged ACL against NE and put a lick on Edelman that had him calling the Seahawks the rams much of the rest of the game. So much for the concussion protocol eh? His holdout was damaging for sure but the team still wound up in the divisional round. One of the greats, a high character guy who never embarrassed the team off the field. Seattle should have paid him then instead of when he was on his last tank of gas...

So many losses.... 2013 seems a long time ago.
