Sad day in Seahawkland.

Damn. R.I.P. Paul Allen. You saved the Seahawks in Seattle and brought all the fans the best football of their lives. Glad he was a sports lover. A very sad day for the Seahawks nation.

I believe there would be no SB trophy without his leadership as the owner of the Seahawks. RIP and thank you Paul Allen.

They would have been the LA Seahawks were it not for him. There would be no Seattle Seahawks let alone a trophy.

Sad day, I always thought I would die before the Seahawks won a Super Bowl. Thanks to Mr. Allen that didn’t happen. Thank god Pete, John and the boys got Paul one before he went to the pearly gates.

Paul Allen sadly passed away at an early age all his money couldn't find him more life. I liked him and considered him to be a very good owner.

Now who will be our next owner. Are we going to be heading to LA ? Anybody know who might be in the wings waiting for the opportunity to become the next Seahawks owner.

I hear you. We e all been conditioned to see bad news. And yet this news was sadder indeed.

He certainly saved this team from moving, but beyond that, I am now reading up on more about his life and realizing what an amazing man he was.

I will never forget being at the NFCCG in '06, and when the montage and music started for who was going to raise the 12th Man flag, and after the 2nd sentence on the screen came up, everyone knew it was going to be Paul Allen. When he was introduced, and when that flag hit the top of the pole, that stadium was shaking. It could not have been a more fitting person to do that on that day. It was combination of showing respect and recognition for the man that saved the Seahawks, the buzz of the biggest game in Seahawks history at the time, and being there live to witness it, I was a mess. I could not stop the tears rolling down my face. My buddy was lookin at me like "what is wrong with you??" . It was awesome, a moment I will never forget as they went on to crush the Panthers that day. And the person who set the tone for the game was Paul Allen.

I love hearing about how big of a Hendrix fan he was, and how good of a guitar player he was because of Hendrix's influence. He also loaned money (6 Million) to Hendrix's father to pursue a legal battle to regain control of all of his son's music rights. Check out PA shredding the guitar on the link below.

Here I am typing on a computer running Windows, on a Seahawks forum. He changed not only Seattle, but the world. Thank you Paul Allen for everything you've done.

I was driving home from work listening to 710am sport radio when they broke the news.. My heart sank and I got taken back. crazy.
I remember 1996 when F&*!#$ Ken Behring tried to take our hawks away. That day killed me when I saw on the news the moving trucks... he sold it to Allan..
I heard along the way that Mr. Behring when on to be a huge philanthropist or something. ... and I read on "MyNorthwest" that there is a bust of him sitting at the national museum of American history. As the article said....

".. but unlike Allen he will never, ever raise the 12th man flag."

When I heard of his passing, one of the first thoughts that flashed through my mind was that I felt sorry for him, that being such a recluse, never having married, and never having had any children, that Allen lived a rather unsatisfying, lonley life, that there must have been something about his personality that caused him to be so withdrawn.

But then I quickly realized that I was judging him strictly by my own standards, and considering his substantial resources, that he obviously lived his life as he wanted to.

I'll be forever indebted to Paul Allen. His intervention in the potential devastating tragedy that football loving fans could have sustained had he not come to our rescue and would have altered a good part of my life. This very trip that I am on and currently deriving so much enjoyment from can be attributed largely to him.

So rest in peace, Paul Allen. You will be in my memory until the day my brain quits functioning.

I saw where PA was said to be worth $20.2B. I'm not sure if he was 50/50 partners with Bill Gates or not but if so, I think Gates had like $65B back in the 90s when I worked in Washington DC. Gates was the richest man in America. This would indicate to me that PA "GAVE AWAY" more money (like double) what he had. That is something to admire and I'm sure he has touched more lives with those resources than most of us will ever know.

My understanding is that Allen left Microsoft quite early, prior to his purchase of the Seahawks. He still owned stock but was no longer part of the management team and had gone his seperate way with his new company, Vulcan Enterprises (in honor of his Star Trek fascanation as a child). He was not on board with the company for much of their profitable years in the tech heavy '90's.

When he bought the Seahawks, Allen had more net worth than all of the other 29 majority owners put together. Like Gates, he gave away much of his fortune to charity or financed stuff like the recovery of several WW2 era warships, including the USS Indianapolis (discussed during the movie "Jaws), the aircraft USS Lexington, and the USS Jueneau. He's also given millions to humanitarian efforts, like fighting ebola in Africa. It is fair to say of both him and Gates that they would rank much higher on the list of the richest people in the world if he wasn't such a philanthropist. Many of the Seahawk players, current and former, even guys like Michael Bennett, have eluded to Allen's generosity. Despite his reclusiveness, he truly was a very sensitive and caring man.

Since today is my birthday, I'm going to buy some lottery tickets - what better present then to be instantly retired and financially free, right?

But that got me to thinking about what I'd do with all that money. You can only spend so much and then it is old. I thought about what charities I'd give money to, things I would do for other people, etc. (One of the things I'd do is buy a suite for a few season and invite all the forum folks to it a time or two to watch a game together and get to know everyone on a personal basis and not just on a forum).

I can't imagine the decisions he had to make with as much as he's got. Ebola would be a great cure and thing to tackle. I'm sure there are more but I'm in awe of people like PA and BG who give so much back. Those who are entrusted with so much have so much expected of them and those two are trying to live up to those expectations.
