Trade or release why

Why is a player not traded and instead released without fair value. Case in point Brandon Marshall had market value to a team that needs WR like the Patriots or Cardinals. I do not understand the thinking behind this move . We could have gotten a 5th or 6th pick for Marshall why does this happen.

Takes two teams to make a trade. If no one is willing to give up anything for a player you can't trade him.

Think you might be over valuing Mr. Marshall... wasn't like there was a bidding war during the off season for his dropsies, and he had been overcome in Seattle's roster by quite a few unheralded receivers.
There wasn't a trade, because no team felt he was worth a 7th round selection, that in and of itself should give a clear "value" for Brandon in the NFL.

Teams that might be interested would think there’s a good chance he would be released if he’s offered in a trade,
so it’s a smart move to wait it out.
It’s completely different for a productive starter who is going into his contract year on a rebuilding team.

Northawk thanks you showed me quite clearly the reason we released him and didn't trade. Any team interested will just wait it out.
I wish Brandon a good transition to another team.

Today was the trading deadline, so with no teams interested, they had to release him.

Yeah no one is going to trade for an overaged receiver like Marshall.
