Road Warriors

No particular axe to grind, but with the prospect of having to play the entire postseason on the road if we are to make it to the Super Bowl, I thought that it was worth taking a look at our performance on the road this season:

At Denver and at Chicago: Both close losses, both early in the season and before our running game took hold.

At Detroit: Solid win, non playoff team.

At Oakland: Well, it wasn't in the Black Chit Hole, it was in England, and about 75% of the crowd was pro Seahawks. Blow out win over one of the worst teams in the league.

At Arizona: Solid win, but the 12's always represent about 40-45% of the crowd down there. Definitely not a hostile environment.

At LA: Tough loss, in the game until the final series.

At Carolina: Close game, good win against a solid team.

The Santa Clara game tomorrow will be much like the Arizona game. The stadium will be half empty and of those that do attend many will be Seahawk fans. We destroyed this team 2 weeks ago, no reason in the world why we shouldn't do so again.

Taking a look at our potential opponents, both New Orleans and Chicago have dedicated fan bases that will make life difficult on any visitor. Chicago in particular, since you combine a hostile crowd with potentially hostile weather conditions, would be a tough draw. But their offense isn't a lot better than the Vikings, of whom we destroyed.

We match up pretty well with the Cowboys. In the past, their venue hasn't been very intimidating but I've heard that it's becoming more raucous. They have a weapon in Amari Cooper that they didn't have when we faced them earlier in the season. Dak Prescott is the most mobile of quarterbacks that we'd face in the playoffs.

IMO the Rams would be the best draw for us as we've proven that we can hang with them, and they have one of the lamest fan bases in the league. The key will be getting pressure on Goff.

IMO the toughest place to play, and the toughest team for us to beat, would be the Saints.

Comments?

I thnk the Santa Clara game will be a little tougher than the game a couple weeks ago. They did rack up over 400 yards of offense against us.

The only thing that scares me about Chicago is the weather. I know how cold it can get there in winter especially when the wind starts blowing. (been there, done that, still hate Chicago anytime of year). I think the first matchup with them we didn't know how Mack would be used, if he would be used effectively, etc. We have film on him now AND (this is the big part) Fluker/Simmons will help out Ifedi tremendously on that side.

Dallas' defense scares me the way RW is playing right now but I still think we can take that game.

There's a blueprint on how to defeat N.O. which will be hard to duplicate if we don't have KJ in the lineup.

The Rams will be down Cupp and the Bears showed how to shut them down if we implement the plan.

I really like our chances and if the Vikes ever find themselves (totally possible with the OC shakeup that just happened) we could possibly be hosting them for the NFCCG.

Agreed about the Niners. We caught all the breaks in our game vs. them. Nevertheless, there's enough of a talent difference that we should still handle them by a couple of scores.

It's a wild card. Russell doesn't have a real great history in cold weather games.

One of the things about Chicago's winter weather that concerns me is fog. I watched a game there years ago when the fog was so thick that they had to shoot the game from the sidelines. With our running game, we might have an advantage in a situation like that, but you never know.

Oh, and it's Cooper Kupp, not Cupp. He's from Eastern Washington via Yakima.

Agree we should win by 10 or more.

Which to me is just weird since he played a couple years at Wisconsin. I know he's a VA boy that played in NC for undergrad but still... He is really terrible in cold weather.

I remember a REdskin game like that but I thought they were playing the Eagles. I also kind of remember the game you are talking about not to mention a game where the wind was blowing so hard that the extra point FG attempts were missing the goal posts by 20 yards and that was before moveing the extra point back. That said, with our run game, I'm not so worried about the fog. A game like that would come down to a blown play and a long run and we've got a good chance of being that team.

Thanks for the correction. I did get the double p though.. (partial points for that I guess.) :D

I can recall 2 NFL games where fog forced video broadcasts to the field level. One was the Eagles vs. the Bears in Chicago sometime during the 80's and the 2nd was the Patriots hosting an opponet of which I can't remember in the 90's.

They really should have postponed those games. The fog was so bad that punts went unfielded, kickers couldn't see the goal posts from 30 yards out, and so on, not to mention that fans couldn't see a damn thing.

If punts go unfeilded that may benefit us... :D

Sooner or later the law of averages will take effect and the hawks will lose to the Niners. Today may be it.

Didn’t post about it beforehand but was worried about this game all week, really since the first one . They went up and down the field in Seattle . Clark was talking all week. That field is always terrible and was horrible last night . And people forget the 9ers were a dark horse playoff pick who was much healthier . When sea bass shifted on the first xp and then literally got out of the way on the return I had a feeling . The officials were just the cherry on top. Hawks have a much harder road and if they don’t clinch Sunday night they will
Have a 500 lb gorilla on their back with a team with nothing to lose or prove coming in a few weeks after getting McCarthy fired. Not counting my chickens until they hatch

I really didn't see the uninterested RW show up for this one.
