They hung tough against a hard-nosed opponent that much of the game took away what the Cougs like to do.

What a year for Minshew. Comes in out of nowhere, leads the nation in passing, wins the Unitas award, and will now disappear (well, could go pro, but I'm not holding my breath).
Way to go, Cougs!

Well good for the Cougs and Mike Leach, the guy who is known for getting road rashed in bowl games.
There's got to be a place for Minshew on sundays. He shattered records playing high level competition.
It looks to me like he has it all, big arm, super accurate, mobile enough, moves well in the pocket with awareness, reads the field well and generally makes good decisions whether it's time to run or throw it away or just take the sack.
He's also tough and courageous and a leader.
I'm not a draft guru so I wont venture a guess as to what round but someone is going to give this kid a chance in the draft. He's no Luke Faulk

Although I think Minshew certainly has the physical skills to succeed at the next level I believe the thing that tips the balance in his favor as a pro prospect is his swagger and confidence as a leader. His confidence spills over to his teammates and makes everyone play at a higher level.

Yes I agree with this. Hes sort of a Baker Mayfield lite. Better sportsmanship but the same kind of swagger. As the great Larry Bird once said. It aint talkin trash if you can back it up.

It's hard to guess where Minshew might go in the draft, if he does get drafted. Some sites have him ranked as high as 5th amongst QB's, but on other sites he doesn't even crack the top 15. My understanding is that the scouts aren't real high on Mike Leach-coached QB's, but we'll see.

If he goes as low as 15th, he would be a good backup QB for Wilson. What do you think river ?
Go Hawks !!!

Wait, you're talking about Minshew "as low as 15th" in, like, the first round?!
This is a poor draft for QB prospects so he'll probably go higher than he should, but no way do I think we even look at him before the 5th. If it were me I'd wait and see if we could sign him
after the draft.

The draft has 7 rounds.
Some of our quarterbacking need might be dictated by our contract talks with Russell, which I would expect to start in earnest after the end of this season. Although I personally doubt that it would happen, we might be in the market for a QB in the mid to late rounds as an insurance policy in the event that the talks break down. Otherwise, if we're just looking for a backup, we'll probably do what we've been doing ever since Russell took over the starting job, ie pick one up in free agency or as an undrafted free agent.

I got the impression PF was talking about the 15th pick overall.
For me, he's a late pick or UFA if he isn't selected, but who knows how any NFL team really views him.
The old saying is true, it only takes one.

I admit as a Duck Alum this may sound bias, but It was Iowa State, in warm TX, this should have been a category 5 wipe out. What happened to Cougs?

Like every other team in the Pac 12, they played a soft schedule and were overrated. The Pac 12 has been down for the past decade, and in my eyes, are close to losing their "Power 5" status. With the Cougs narrow win, the conference is now 1-2 in the bowls and will be damn lucky to end up with 2 wins. UW will get their arses handed to them by Ohio State. I heard on one broadcast that it's been something like 12-15 years since UW beat a non conference top 10 team. The only thing worse than Pac 12 football is Pac 12 men's basketball.
As was clearly demonstrated yestereday, the epicenter of the college football universe is in the southeastern part of the country.

A win is a win. They won. they hung up 11 wins for the first time in school history. No style points. Its not a game of how, it's a game of how many.

I assume you weren't even referring to a round, and meant 15th QB selected overall in the draft.
This is my assumption but I think it makes sense considering he was replying to Rivers comment, "It's hard to guess where Minshew might go in the draft, if he does get drafted. Some sites have him ranked as high as 5th amongst QB's, but on other sites he doesn't even crack the top 15."
Minshew isn't going to disappear. He might not make it as a pro QB, we shall see, but he has pretty well stated he eventually wants to become a coach anyways and I think he will definitely succeed at that if nothing else.

A win is not a win in FBS college football. Style points are given, which is why conference champs like Washington and Ohio State didn't get invited to the playoffs. Until CFB expands their playoff system, WSU and other Pac 12 teams need to start scheduling and beating high profile non conference teams if they expect to get any traction on the national scene. WSU's non conference opponents this season were Eastern Washington, Wyoming, and San Jose State.
