Paxton Lynch
DeShawn Shead
Shalom Luani

They might want to get Shead back when the roster is settled and vet contracts aren’t guaranteed
for the full year.

Shead is a mild surprise. I thought that he might make it based on his previous experience with us.

It's been quite a fall from grace for Paxton Lynch since he was a first round pick in 2016. He was cut by the Broncos last season and no one picked him up. Now he's cut again in what could be his last chance to stay in the league. It sure doesn't speak well for John Elway's eye for QB talent.

Elway has had some trouble identifying good QB talent, but maybe Lynch will catch on in the XFL
and get some playing reps where he can improve enough to become a backup QB in the NFL.

Jaron Brown and Cassius Marsh cut.

What is a good source for these cuts? Did Griffin make it? Seems like he did and I don’t understand why, besides sentimental reasons.

Sounds like we're cutting Jazz:

Griffin is likely to end up on IR.

We have Zero b/u QB's on the roster -- lots of veterans cut that I didn't expect. We have a young, young team of backups going forward.

EDIT: Typical Seahawks website still has Mingo and Martin on the roster... obviously that's not right.

Something's not right, nobody goes into the season with only one QB on the roster ... we couldn't be bringing in Kap could we?

It's correct:

Russell Wilson is currently the only quarterback on the Seattle Seahawks after the team announced its 53-man roster on Saturday.

According to Seahawks.com reporter John Boyle, backup signal-callers Geno Smith, Paxton Lynch and J.T. Barrett were let go, leaving the seven-year starter as the lone quarterback left.

However, Boyle noted that the Hawks "can and likely will make more moves between now and next weekend."
One of those moves may be bringing Smith back into the mix, as Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times explained:

Seahawks roster is officially at 53 because Clowney trade hasn't gone through yet. If you add up their cuts with who remains after that trade goes through, you get 52. So, some roster finagling still going on here. They'll need to add a QB.

A reminder that Geno Smith does not go through waivers. So, Seattle may just have an agreement with him that he stays put for a day while the trade works itself out and then he re-signs. Like they meant to do with Tom Johnson last year.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/285 ... ackups-cut

Apparently we're not the only team that currently lists just one QB on the roster. The article states that both the Broncos and Colts kept just one QB.

The trade hasn’t been finalized so the roster isn’t yet updated.

1. The Hawks, like all teams, had to submit a 53-man roster by 1:00pm PT yesterday (Saturday). What you see on the Seahawks.com website is the 'official' roster that we had to submit to the league in order to meet the deadline.

2. The Clowney trade was not finalized by 1:00pm. It is a 2-for-1 player deal, meaning that after the deal goes through and Mingo and Martin come off the roster and Clowney goes on, we'll have an extra roster spot.

3. Geno does not have to go through waivers, so apparently he's agreed to sit tight for 24 hours or so until the Clowney trade is finalized after which he'll resign with us and get our roster back up to 53.

4. Jaron Brown is apparently a cap casualty. We could have kept him had we wanted to, but now that we have to pay Clowney nearly $16M, it would have restricted out ability to sign or trade for other players, especially during this very active time when so many players are suddenly without teams.

I wonder if John Schneider gets overtime pay for working weekends? :D

I feel that as long as the Hawks have a winning season, Schneider should finally get his deserved GM of the Year award. He clearly won the draft, and now this trade show that he's playing 3-dimensional chess out there.

That's a very nice summation.

I wouldn't necessarily assume though that Geno has made any such agreement to hold tight. I think it's just as likely that we wanted to (or at least are willing to) take a look at who gets released around the league. If no one of greater interest is available we can bring Geno back if he hasn't signed elsewhere, or Paxton maybe if he has.

That's true, although I think the possibility I suggested is the more likely of the options we have. But we won't have to wait long to find out. We have to sign a QB within the next 24-48 hours as we don't want to go into the week prior to our first game w/o a backup QB.

Just once I’d love to be in the war room with John on this very weekend. I’d even play the role of fly on the wall. Maybe some kind of make-a wish program for 53 year olds.

I read somewhere that there was a suggestion that the Seahawks would provide a bit of a "sweetener" to Geno's contract if he didn't sign elsewhere.
How true it turns out to be, I don't think we will ever know.

It's official. We've re-signed Geno.

The Seahawks released Geno Smith on Saturday as part of their transactions to get the roster down to 53 players, but it turned out that was only a temporary move.

Smith’s free agency was short-lived because on Sunday the Seahawks re-signed Smith...

Smith’s signing comes after the completion of the trade that sent Barkevious Mingo and Jacob Martin to Houston as well as a 2020 third-round pick to acquire defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. That move wasn’t finalized Saturday, meaning that in order to get the roster to 53 players while keeping both Mingo and Martin on the roster, the Seahawks had to free up a spot, which they did by temporarily releasing then re-signing Smith, a veteran who was in Seattle’s plans, but who wasn’t subject to waivers.

Sorry Rambo, they got both Jaron and Geno back haha.

But I wouldn't mind seeing what Kaep can do for a team. There are a lot of starting QB's who haven't demonstrated more success than Kaep.

Yea, ole Lamblow has been pretty quiet the past 48 hours.

At the risk of starting another debate, I can go the rest of my life without seeing that worthless POS Colin Kaepernick on a football field again. The chances of him ever playing again stand somewhere between slim and none.

Yes I am quiet cuase the Rams are in total control and masters of the NFL. They spent the pre-season getting massages and taking it easy not getting injured so now we are ready to get it on!!!!

Lamblow isn't a very good troll because he's stupid. He doesn't know his football beyond a few cheerleading chants. That's why I haven't petitioned our mods to ban him because in my view he's a joke and somewhat entertaining. Now CP Returns from the old PI forum was a true troll as knew the game quite well, could deliver backhanded compliments and subtle digs and do so in just the right manner to keep his behavior just barely within the limits of the TOS.

I dont know who drove me more crazy Tail, or Duck b man! Both were such jerks. I never understood why you took so much heat off Jake Locker, you were spot on about him, but Husky fans hated you after that. You ever meet Global, not a bad guy for a Husky Alum! He got drove off by his own kind over sticking up for Neweasal.

Although it was an unofficial college football forum, it was officially a Husky forum, so one has to expect to take some grief if you're not taking a healthy drink of purple Kool-Aid. I wouldn't say that they *hated* me, at least not all of them, and I wouldn't call them completely biased about Locker. A lot of very knowledgeable scouts thought highly enough of Jake to rate him in the top 3 QB's in the nation. But you're right, most didn't see the same things I did, that Locker was an inaccurate thrower, didn't always exercise good decision making, and his first reaction when his primary receiver was covered was to run.

And even though I was ultimately right about Locker, I also thought that Matt Flynn should have started ahead of that little sawed off midget, so we have to keep things in perspective.

Great point, Riv. Rambo is too easy to swat away, not really good enough to be a true troll.
