I read it was a 3rd round pick, not a 2nd.

According to Ian Rappaport:

Terms for the #Seahawks trade for Jadeveon Clowney: Seattle gets Clowney, the #Texans get a third-round pick, LB Jacob Martin, and pass-rusher Barkevious Mingo, source said.

"IF" Clowney wants to play this will be one of the biggest steals ever. I'm a bit worried about his record though about taking plays off and saving himself. I hope he's ready to sacrifice his body for the team and a championship.

That would be a very reasonable price for one season. Not sure he will put us over the top, but he at least upgrades a position of need. He seems like an ideal LEO.

He fits Carroll’s Defence better than most players as we play a 4-3 with some 3-4 looks and Clowney
might have been a little out of position as a 3-4 DE. That 3-4 experience can only help our DL.

I worry most about him getting injured after no TC or Pre- season games to get used to contact.

I worry about injuries with this guy anyway.

his 'injuries' were in his first 2 1/2 years. Been to the ProBowl each year since. 4th highest total of Sacks/hurries/tackles behind the line in the last 3 years.
Maybe he was 'playing for his contract' and so be it with the Seahawks this year.

We did have to cut Jaron Brown to pay Clowney so there is a dark side to the trade that may come back to bite us.

Yeah it's gonna be tough to replace his 14 receptions ... we were (maybe still are) are gonna have to cut a good receiver anyway most likely.

Yea, we suddenly have a very, very inexperienced receiving corps that hasn't worked hardly at all with Russell much. But it will allow us to keep Jennings.

We didn’t have to cut him The Clowney trade was only a net +11 mil cap hit... and AFTER the trade we still have 14+ mil in cap space. We cut Brown because the Hawks wanted to keep other guys at that position.

Actually I got the information from the NFL web site - Ian Rappaport broke the news of Jaron being cut and he indicated it was because we didn't have the cap space to sign Clowney. Mykc14, you may be right, but Ian does get his information right most of the time, so it's anybody's guess and it really doesn't matter. There's always the chance we re-sign him after week #1, so the contract isn't guaranteed --

Ian Rappaport definitely is a more reliable source than me, but the Hawks had over 21 mil in cap space before the trade and they saved 4.1 mil by sending Mingo to the Texans so the net difference would only be 12 mil, still leaving the Hawks with about 9. They have about 5 mil they COULD have to pay in per game bonuses. I could definitely see them wanting to give themselves some wiggle room and seeing Browns almost 3 mil as more cushion or something, but if they really liked him they certainly wouldn’t have cut him and wouldn’t have HAD to. At the end of the day, though, you’re right it doesn’t really matter.

All kidding aside, What a deal for the Hawks! Mingo was gonna get cut. I like Martin, but at his size he is just a situational pass rusher and will never be a 3 down DE. Clowney has lots of motivation as he is in a contract year, We have a great chance of a 3rd rnd comp pick in '21 if he doesn't re-sign here.
Glad the trade didn't involve Penny, Britt, Ifedi as some were speculating.
