Possible Roster Moves

As we have some needs on our team and John Schneider always wants to be in play on possible deals,
it’s been reported that Minkah Fitzpatrick has asked for and given permission to seek a trade from the
Dolphins. He’s a Safety who’s young and was the 11th overall pick in 2018.

Do we go after him? The fins are said to want a 1st round pick, but maybe a player and a 2nd or
other combination?

I say give it a shot and try to make a trade for him.

We sure missed Earl last Sunday as we got beat deep a couple times last Sunday, especially at the end of the first half. Perhaps that explains the interest in Fitzpatrick.

Schneider still has an armload of draft picks and seems to be in the "win now" mode, so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see a few deals go down before the trading deadline.

From some of the research I've done, he's a natural Nickel Corner and wants to play in the slot.
He's quicker and faster than our other Nickels, and Coleman from the last couple of years,
as well, he's a good tackler - better than Coleman.
He doesn't want to play all over, but concentrate on being a nickel DB so it might be a good fit.

The Cap implications are limited as the Dolphins have to absorb his signing bonus so he would
cost about $6 Million over 3 years.

How about our 1st for him and then swap positions with our 2nd round pick. Maybe even throw
in a young player that can play DB or a late round pick. That would give us a very high 2nd round
pick and they get another 1st rounder as well as both teams maintain their 2nd round selections.

I didn't see this thread before creating mine, totally agree like I said in mine I read this morning the Dolphins have given him permission to seek trades meaning he will have some say. 3 years left on his rookie deal the only cost would be what pick they are looking for in return

No worries.
Apparently the Cowboys are sniffing around the Dolphins about Fitzpatrick.
I don't know how they have so much Cap space as they have the most expensive
OL in the league, the highest paid RB, expect to sign Cooper to a big deal and have
Dak Prescott to sign to a large QB contract. Maybe they are putting all of their chips
in for 1 or 2 years in the hope they get to the SB.

I belong to a few trash talk groups on FB that are infested with Poke fans they are all but certain he will be traded to them but I am not sure their FO can pull it off. they have some big contracts to work with and a few more coming up. I obviously am a bit of a homer but if I was a DB I would rather play for a defensively built team with a defensively minded coach than the cowboys. the key here will be the Dolphins allowing him to shop for trades I think. I hope

Most Cowboys fans thought they were landing ET for a 5th rounder last year as well.
One of the most clueless fanbases around.

Evidently, it might be more then conjecture for the Seahawks, who should be in the market for a nickle defender.... if you believe LaCanforte's information. I can't believe we would give them a #1, but considering JS's #1 pick history, I wouldn't doubt it, either.

Mincah Fitzpatrick to the Steelers for a 1st round pick. I'm glad we stayed away. I hope we stay away from Jalen Ramsey too.

I dont get this move on the part of the Steelers. They need a good qB they should have made a play for Eli Manning or the like.

How much do you think the front office is willing to put out for Ramsey? He would definitely be a upgrade in the secondary. This would allow Flowers to move to safety to help shore up the back end or work as a slot defender. Possibilities are intriguing, but the price may be to high. You can bet John and Pete are making a bid. We will see what happens.

At first, I didn't get it, either. Especially with Worthlessburger suffering at least a season ending and perhaps a career ending injury and after a 0-2 start, they look like a team that should be in full rebuild mode. The smart play would seem to be to accumulate draft picks.

But when you consider that Fitzpatrick is just 22 years old, it's like drafting a true senior out of college. Why wouldn't you trade a #1 pick for a proven player that's younger than most draft choices?

Yah, it does make sense in a number of ways more than just age.

1. They’ve seen him play at the NFL level
2. He plays a position they identify as a need
3. There’s no guarantee the draft would fall to allow them to fill that need.
4. They clearly think he’s an upgrade for their Defense.

Time will tell if it works out for them.

+1 on that -- Another Diva is not worth 2 firsts ---

So far I read he wants out because the Jags play their CB's in a Zone (like we do) and he ONLY wants to play against other's teams #1 in a man-to-man, so don't get your hopes up, even for a #1 and change.

Last game, Coach Marone wouldn't challenge a 3 yard completion against him and he threw a hissy fit (another Richard we don't need)

I'm sure there has been some conversation about a trade since PCJS seem to be involved in everything. I believe a deal is unlikely, though.

I don't think Ramsey is a scheme or a culture fit. Pete sacrificed talent (Sherm, Bennett) to regain the culture he wanted. This feels like a young, fun loving team that is growing together. I can't see Ramsey being a part of that. Does Pete want a guy who shows up to camp in a Brinks armored truck?? Probably not.

Brock Huard said this yesterday morning: "Big drama, Big diva wanting a big contract"

However, Jamal Adams took down all his Jets references on his twitter account. Hmmm...

We've had a few veteran DB's come through here that were good, but didn't work out or had trouble adjusting to what Pete wants his DB's to do.
I think they would rather develop a player than try to change a player. If he came from a Defense that was coached by a former Seahawk DC,
it might be different as they would probably be exposed to the techniques Pete teaches and might be able or willing to adjust.

That being said, I'm not sure our FO wants to deal with a diva personality after letting Sherman go. I think Pete likes the personality types he
has and might not want to upset the balance at this point.

Good to see you posting again, Pontiff!

We may be over estimating how willing Pete/John are to be trading. It's not a great feeling when you're a player on the bubble that thinks he's made the team yet we're still expressing our dissatisfaction with his play by being in the trade market. If they were as aggressive as we think they are, they probably would have out-bid Pittsburgh for Fitzpatrick.

I also see where the Cowboys, after failing to attract any interest in a trade, released Taco Charlton, a former first round pick just 2 years ago. He might be worth our checking out.

If he gets through waivers, we should at least bring him in.
He might have been on their radar in his draft year but we don't know because he went before we selected.
Is he good at rushing the passer? He couldn't get playing time in Dallas, so he might not be that good.
We'll see if they pick him up if he clears waivers.
