Now that the Hawks have a healthy O line ... I love the push they are getting off the LOS...Joey Hunt did a great job for the injured J. Britt... Penny is having a great game... Carson is just an animal... Love this running game!! Yeah Atlanta isnt the niners but this is a game of momentum... Love the way the Hawks are playing right now...

We do have to keep in mind that the Falcons are one of the worst teams in the conference, but yes, we're looking good. Hard to say anything else when it's 24-0 at the half.

I'd hold off on that... Britt - probably out for the year.

Yea, suddenly we're in the market for a center. I haven't watched the replay yet and it might just be a coincidence, but our offensive productivity went way down when Britt went out and Hunt replaced him.

I thought the same thing but Britt went out 3 minutes or so into the game, guess the Hawks are just not accustomed to being ahead that much going into the second half. Lots of good and plenty of bad in that game

Ahh if he got hurt 3 minutes into the game that means most of our scoring came with a different Center so you point makes no sense. He got hurt at 11:57 of the 1st qtr we went on to score that drive and 24 more besides.

I thought Britt went down a lot further into the game, but I guess not.

Pete said after the game that they were trying to prevent the big play by playing loose and giving them a lot of underneath stuff. It wasn't clear to me if they made that adjustment at halftime or if they went into the game with that plan, but the 24-0 score was not a large enough lead to justify any changes outside those you'd normally do in any game regardless of the score. It's only a 3 score lead, plus they were getting the ball first in the 2nd half.

Agree but that is PC MO, we either do nothing for a half and then try to win in the end, or we score big in the first half and then try to hang on. We rarely, mind you rarely not never bur rarely blow people out or get blown out. But it done make us very vulnerable and has not worked in the playoff since 2014.

I wouldn't say it's Pete's MO to "do nothing for a half" or "score big in the first half then try to hang on", but it is his philosophy to keep games close by controlling the ball by playing a low risk offense and a great defense, and it's worked well for him. From 2011 to 2016, we set an all time record of playing 85 consecutive games without having lost by more than 10 points. No other team in the modern era has come remotely close to matching that feat. That means that we're competitive in every single game for 5 straight years, even in those games where we fielded an inferior team, and we won a lot of games during that period of time, including our first and only Lombardi.

Especially this season, where we clearly don't have the horses like we've had in years past, I'm good with a low risk offense and keeping games close. Teams that don't turn the ball over have a tendency to get really lucky, and there are times that it's better to be lucky than good.

That same offense was in play during the second half of last year's terrible playoff game against the Cowboys. I want to blame Shotty --
The OC in Pete's system carries a lot of play-to-play decision weight.
Last year, the reason the result changed is the Cowboys are just better then the Falcons, so we lost. We have 7 tough games in a row. They better get their act together real soon.

Even the 'worst play in our history' -- Bevel admitted he called it, not Pete. Pete just delegates it and maybe it was up to Russell to change it to a Wilson - Beastmode Run-Pass option, which it should of been with 3 downs to get in. If they had run it to the left...

Its really amazing that this team is 6-2 considering all the injuries to the o line... the back ups are playing somewhat decent... I like Hunt lets see what he does vs serious competition...

Actually we finally have some decent depth along the OL. Jamarco Jones was a pleasant surprise, being able to transition into guard and do a very respectable job, perhaps even better than Fluker, plus Fant has a couple years experience under his belt and has developed nicely. What used to be a weakness is now one of, if not the strongest, position groups on the team.

The injury bug has hit the defense more than it has the offense, and it shows on the field.

Pete goes to this defense whenever he gets 2 scores up. It literally frustrates the crap out of me. I hate that defense. The only year we won the SB is when Quinn would keep the pressure on which meant he was going to be gone after that season anyways.

Actually we're not that bad vs. the run. As a matter of fact, we're giving up fewer yards per game rushing than the 49'ers. Our run defense is ranked 13th, which isn't great, but it demonstrates that rushing defense isn't a huge problem. The problem is against the pass, where we're ranked 28th. The only teams ranked below us are the Cards, Lions, Bucs, and Raiders. That's not very good company to be keeping. None of those teams have a winning record.

We play our base defense more often than any team in the league, which might help explain the disparity of our defense against the run vs. the pass. Perhaps we need to start going more with 2 linebackers and play our nickel package more often. For the 2nd week in a row, we got trashed by a relatively pedestrian quarterback throwing to a big, physical receiver. Mychael Kendricks, the LB that comes out most often when we go with 5 DB's, got 68% of the defensive snaps vs. the Bucs while Taylor, our nickel back, had just 43% of the snaps.

Whether it's scheme or personnel, something has to change. The only reason our defense isn't hurting us as much as it has is that the offense has been very good at not putting them in bad positions by committing turnovers. Russell's thrown just one interception and we've turned the ball over just 9 times in as many games. As it stands now, we're playing on borrowed time. Eventually this horrid defense is going to catch up with us.

When you're giving up passing yards like a broken dam lets water pass, no one bothers to rush. It sure seems like when teams want to rush on us, they do. The all around defense seems terrible. We're ranked 23rd in yards per carry defense, with 6 other teams including the Patriots and Niners, at 4.7 YPC. The Jets are tops with 3.1.

That metric doesn't seem to mean very much as we're tied with the top two ranked defenses in the league in terms of both yards and points allowed, the Niners and Pats, and that the dead-from-the-neck-up NY Jets lead that category.

We are pretty good in 3rd down conversions against us, ranked #6 overall, and in percentage of red zone touchdowns allowed, where we're ranked 8th. But those stats don't tell the whole story. Our defense doesn't pass the smell test. We stink.

At least statistically, you'd have to go all the way back to Pete's first season in 2010 when we finished with the 25th ranked defense to find a Seahawk defense this bad. And the worst of it is that the most difficult part of our schedule is yet to come.
