Again, Ian Rappaport says it happened just seconds ago ...

Does Seattle get any kind of refund or compensation for this? What is the team out of? Do the Hawks have to pay the remainder of his salary?

When the Patriots give up on a guy the rest of the teams in the league should take notice. I realize Gordon was released while he was on IR but you know there was more to it than that.

The Cap implication is an interesting question.
For some reason I thought we weren't on the hook for the rest of his salary and the only hit was for
the time on the roster. But I could be way wrong on this.

He's suspended without pay, I don't think there is a "rest of his salary".

It doesn't really hurt us to have picked him up... He helped us beat the niners and Carolina and there's no salary implications going forward. The only bad thing is that we aren't going to have him moving forward, but we might not be where we are without him so I'm glad we picked him up.

Josh Gordon was house money. We got value for him, but now he's lost. Oh well.

Exactly. I expected this result at some point frankly, especially when Belichick pulled that weird put him on i.r move then releases a big horse like that when Brady has nobody to throw to. The fact nobody but Seattle called is also telling.

Oh well he helped us win a few games. Its kind of a sleazy feeling that my team was even involved with him but we will take the W's. Id say best of luck but I dont even feel sorry for the dude anymore. Body by God, brain by Kmart bargain rack. You can't fix stupid...

Incredible. How many times has this guy been busted? He must have some addiction not to be able to lay off the weed when he knows he's going to get caught again.

But as others have noted, nothing ventured, nothing lost.

That's too bad. I wonder if the transgression is since he joined the team, or legacy from previous.

Isn't he just smoking pot? If it's just pot, NFL needs to change it's drug policy for modern society. Stupid to ruin a guy's livelihood because of some substance that isn't even as bad as alcohol.

They didn't say what kind of policy violation. It could be that he didn't show up as instructed at the specified time/place for his blood/urine draw, which would be recorded as a positive test. But based on his past violations, it's reasonable to assume it was a positive test for pot.

Due to a number of states making it legal, the NFL in all likelihood will be revisiting their substance abuse policy, at least as it relates to pot, after the season just as MLB has, but any changes has to be negotiated with the union.

NFL.com says it's both "performance enhancing" and a recreational violation. He hit the daily double. Drug X and Pot.
That catch he made on Sunday was up there with the best of the catches highlight reel. Too bad...

Except he negated that catch with the worst bonehead decision of the game on the reverse pass that was intercepted. Can't trust pot heads.

I'm a little surprised that the team didn't have a 'roommate' with him to oversee his time here. It's pretty obvious when you're stoned. Hard to hide, unlike PED's which have no outward affect.

I think more players smoke pot than not, so it must have been something else...pretty sure it's a common thing. Look at what MLB is doing about it.

They said the suspension was for performance enhancing drugs and a "substance of abuse", which everyone has assumed means pot.

Yes its reportedly both PEDS and drugs, the daily double.

Its his 8th suspension. It could be pot on the one hand but as I recall at one time Gordon was forbidden from consuming alcohol which resulted in one of his suspensions. As for PEDs I'll go back to what Holmgren said when Shawn Springs got popped for PEDs. "when you're a star you shouldn't need to take aspirin". Why a guy built like Gordon needs to do that is mystifying.

Bottom line when you've been popped as many times as Gordon the testing is continuous. How stupid could he be?

It goes beyond stupid. I don't care of it's legal or not, if he has that bad of an addiction, whether it be alcohol, hard drugs, or pot, to the point where he can't break the habit despite how much he obviously loves playing the game and/or making money, he has a serious problem. He needs to get himself into some sort of rehab or it's going to ruin his life.

He clearly has a problem. But its #8. I just dont have a lot of sympathy at this point. Im sure hes done rehab more than once.

Addiction sucks and its way closer to me personally than I wish it was but at a certain point the guy is just being enabled by the league, both in general and also by teams like the Pats and the Hawks who employed him long after his number of chances in the league should have expired.

Im curious if the charges had been under appeal. Surely Seattle would have known that wouldnt they? Did they bring in the guy to help as long as possible knowing he was dirty? I'm curious about that.
Ill feel a lot different if that were the case than if it just came out of the blue. Clearly Belichick knew something.

I wouldn't be so sure that he's done rehab, or if he has, if he was serious about it or if he was just going through the motions just to satisfy some sort of requirements for reinstatement. I had a friend that picked up 6 DUI's before he admitted that he had a problem.

I don't have any sympathy for him, either, but I do want to see him get his life turned around, if for nothing else for his loved ones or those that he may hurt if he fails to do so.

That's a good question. If it was from a preexisting violation the resolution of which was still pending, it seems to me that it would be impossible that the Hawks wouldn't have known about it, but I don't know that for sure.

I just watched an interview with the former HC of the Browns Hue Jackson. Asked about Gordon , what he would say to him he said “ we had a lot of conversations with him. Look I like Josh and wish him well but you can’t just keep bringing the young man back. It’s like saying it’s OK”.

Oh correction he’s only been suspended 6 times, not 8  :(

It looks like we'll finally get our first true look at John Ursua, a player that looked pretty good in the preseason and got his first regular season snaps last Sunday. He played well enough in the preseason to the point where I thought that he was going to make the team. He's no Josh Gordon, but I thought he was a decent hands receiver.
