Schotty fired

I don’t have the link but it happened. Well, I was calling for his head because he lacked creativity. I want some New Age superstar. Like the rest of our division that regularly kills it. However, nothing will work if Pete doesn’t lay off the offense
. This might be a problem with the defense as well. I believe we could have brought Quinn or Bradley back if Pete didn’t have his hands all over defense.

I saw the first half of the notice flash on my phone. Wasn’t sure just who we parted ways with. I can’t say as I feel bad about this. I feel bad for Schotty and family, but not for the Hawks moving forward. Thanks for the update.

Here's the link:

https://www.nfl.com/news/seahawks-part- ... ttenheimer

The Seattle Seahawks announced Tuesday they have parted ways with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Something had to have happened. Pete just got through saying that he expected/hoped that all of his coaches would return.

There appeared to be some unhappy campers in the locker room. Chris Carson is reported to have been upset that he didn't get enough carries vs. the Rams, Metcalf was upset early in the game, etc.

I sure hope Pete hires a real offensive guru and just leaves him alone. Wonder what Holmgren is doing... ;)

I hate to see guys let go, but I’ve been pretty vocal about my frustration with our offense and lack of creativity/adjustments throughout the year. The only question is can PC hire a creative OC that will form an offense around RW. Will RW be involved in the hiring process?

Talk radio is blasting Pete for this move, and RW's personal "coach" (Heaps) is talking against it as well. Those who watched, it took RW 2 hours to do his post game presser and it wasn't classic RW: hadn't showered, wasn't dressed up and clearly unhappy. It stuns me that Pete would not have RW on board with this, but Heaps remarks are indicating that Pete put handcuffs on the offense and both RW and Schotty were unhappy about it.

The comments by RW, Lockett etc. seemed to be damning the offense for not adjusting to the two deep defense over the past 5 games; as did Pete in his end of season presser.....but the above seems to say it was Pete's fault, not Schotty.

Don't know what went on, but WOW!

FYI: RW's tweet seems to say he was a Schotty fan.

I was listening to talk radio as well. 710 was really pissing me off with their negativity about the move. Jake Heaps voicing serious concerns. Actually KJR (Softy) seems more upbeat about it. I think people are afraid that we are going back to a conservative run-first offense. I recall Schottenheimer being conservative before he came in, so I’m not sure what the fuss is about. Remember the first half of the season we were playing very bad defenses Pence Russ was cooking.

Schotty’s lack of creativity set our offense back.I have no idea if Pete sees it this way, I just hope he does

Per espn.com, "The Seahawks announced the decision Tuesday, citing "philosophical differences" as the reason for the parting, while calling Schottenheimer a "fantastic person and coach."

No elaboration was given on the difference in philosophy. But from the same espn article, RW's quoted tweet may indicate he wasn't happy with the move: ""Schotty... I'm grateful for how much you meant to me over the past three years," Wilson tweeted. "God blessed me with you, we won a lot of games, threw a lot of touchdowns and had a blast in meetings and our bible studies. The best days are ahead for you. Go be Great. God first. Love. 3."

So may we infer from the tweet that the Pete was the problem, not Schotty?

some of you assume that he really was "fired" vs. "I want to have my contract terminated". That makes a big difference. Obviously Pete was mad and he had his own 'non-typical' non rah-rah press conference yesterday about the end of the season performance. His comments about what changed in the offense after the first 6 weeks were not positive and I had a feeling a major change was close to happening. I now think that "let Russ cook" was Shotty and Russ, and Pete accepted it until the roll-off after game 5 or 6. After that it was mostly downhill for the team.

If I was Carson, I'd be pissed off to, but you have to look at the OLine before blaming the play calling.

Gawd, I hope not! I've seen enough 2nd and long draw plays.

Saw this on Twitter:

"The conversation was:
Pete: Russ can’t cook
Brian: I disagree. He made that 1 chicken thing
Pete: that wasn’t chicken.....
Brian: are you sure?
Pete: I’m positive.. I can’t find my cat..
Brian: that’s fine
Pete: .......... you’re fired"
:D

Who does Pete answer to in the organization? The owners? We never here anything about them whereas owners like Kraft and Jones seem to more directly involved in decisions that affect their teams. The Seahawk owners are in Japan, aren't they?

Jodi Allen - Paul’s sister is running the team, but she seems not to be as involved as Paul.

In this case, I’m wondering if Schotty resisted the change back to the conservative Pete ball and that’s what caused the change at OC.

That's right. I knew that Paul's sister was now the owner now that you mention it. I must have been thinking of the Mariners.

How much time is left on Pete's contract?

Pete just signed a new contract for 3 more years. No mention of $$$, but he was always at or near the top.

Here's a link to the Management of the Seahawks. I would guess Pete reports to Burt Kolbe and then up to Chris McGowan. No lack of 'management' on this team.

It’s hard to say exactly what happened but we will probably know more as we see the hiring process play out. If RW is involved and it seems like they get a guy who will play to RW’s strengths it would seem that RW is all in on the move. If they get another Schotty or Bevel and there is no word that RW was consulted it will probably be clear that PC was flexing his muscle and RW will probably be pissed, adding fuel to the fire that he’s ready to move on from the Hawks. Time will tell but I’m optimistic. If PC doesn’t consult RW with this hire I would say that’s also a message that he’s OK with RW moving on... it could be a crazy off-season. I know PC stated yesterday that the Hawks need to run more next year- I don’t love that but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they aren’t going to go after a creative play-caller.

Plenty of drama to unfold this offseason. Will we bring back Chris Carson? Does he want to come back? Do we give another big contract to the aging KJ? He had a dang good season last year. How about Dunlap? And how about Jamal Adams?

But our first order of business will be hiring a new OC, which will drive our personnel decisions in the offseason. I wonder if we're thinking about Doug Pederson, the recently fired HC of the Eagles, as a possible OC. Could he do for Russell what he did for Carson Wentz? Pederson is a local boy, born in Bellingham and graduated from Ferndale HS.

Seems Wilson is already on his way to being Carson Wentz without Pederson’s “help”......

Good point.

Its interesting that this coincided with John Schneider being signed to a huge extension. Also the surprising firing of Pederson. Did Schneider condition his signing of a contract to personnel changes ? are they gonna make a run at Pederson?

Pederson isn't responsible for Wendz. Wendz is a kid from a lower level college program who was flashy for a couple years and has just got tired of getting hit and injured and has become a coward. As Knox used to say in describing the run and shoot offense."chuck and duck".

I feel like somewhere in the middle of his ninth year of getting pummeled weekly Russ is having some of the same issues. I know it's blasphemy. But I just didn't see the assassin mentality saturday or a lot of other weeks the second half of the season. Schotty got fired but it was Russ completing 11 passes on 30 plus attempts that was the final straw. Id be curious what Russes QBR and completion percentage was the last 10 games. My guess is bad. That isn't the RW I've been watching 9 years.

Last 8 games Russ averaged 182 yards a game, a 67 % completion % and a QBR of 82. He threw 7 picks and god knows how many lost fumbles. And these stats are propped up by a few really nice games vs the Jets, 9ers etc. The first rams game he had a QBR of 57 and last week he completed 40% of his passes and still managed a rating of 72 but most of that was garbage time.He didn't have a single 300 yard game in that stretch. Is that Schottie or is our ninja wearing down?

I guess we will know in 9 months

I just don't buy Pete's philosophy about needing to get the ground game going good before we can pass. There are a number of teams in the NFL that are succeeding without doing that. But it would be necessary to develop some better short and midrange passing schemes than what we have now and it would be necessary to sharpen up the execution on those schemes because that's what makes them work.

We ranked 6th in the league in rushing yards per attempt but 12th in total yards so you can make a statistical argument that we didn't run the ball enough. There were a few games, particularly the Giants game, where it was clear to me that we didn't run enough. Our most successful seasons, in 2013 and 2014 when we went to the SB, we ranked 4th and 1st in rushing yards, so I don't regard Pete's statement as being at all that unusual or unwarranted.

The stats that came out said over past 9 games our run/pass ratio was 40/60. But it was clear we did not adjust to the two deep D. Pete brought this out in his presser, and he didn’t like our running game - focus, not sure what that means.

If a Defense is stacking the box to stop the run, we’ll have to pass to open it up so I think what Pete means is
better balance than what we saw earlier in the year. At the end of the year the balance was better, and I think
that’s what Pete wants. I don’t necessarily agree with that philosophy but I’m not the HC.
