Goff is Out of the NFC West..

Wow, 2 first round picks (leaving them Zero for 3 years) and Goff and a 3rd for a OK, but never great 10 year NFL QB Vet that has only made the playoffs twice in his career. It's a total contract dump by the Rams. Looks like that Goff contract was a joke and now the Lions pick what's left of it up and in return they reap the draft picks for taking it on.
And some of us thought that 2 first rounders for a ProBowl Safety was a bad deal. I'm sorry, but I think the Rams could of had Texans' QB Deshaun Watson for a little bit more. (yes, that's called speculation)

Personally I think Stafford is about that much better than Goff. No disagreeing that getting out from under Goffs contract didn't cost them more than it should have though.

Lots of interesting comments by talking heads, too. If the NFL is a "QB" driven league... where does that put Stafford? Does he make the team better, at least in wins and losses? If not that, then the Lions must be the most pathetic team in NFL history. Stafford had Megatron among others over the years and still didn't outperform at any time I can remember. Time will tell. Goff may be the starter for 3 years in Detroit while that 100 million is deposited to his bank account.

Stafford to the Rams? That might make them more dangerous short-term. He's got a hell of an arm.

Man! Did Detroit see them coming or what!! I agree MS is an upgrade but not a massive upgrade. The Nightmare scenario is Deshawn Watson to the the 49ers, we would be totally hosed!

Even in his best season where they went to the SB, I never got the feeling that Goff was a top 10 quarterback. He does not handle pressure well, can't make plays outside the pocket or when plays break down.
You could tell by McVay's body language, even in wearing a mask, that he had lost confidence in Goff, but I never expected this trade, at least not for the price the Lions paid. I don't see it as being a major upgrade for either team. Playing behind the Lions' defense vs. that of the Rams, going from the #1 ranked defense to the worst defense in the league, is going to put even more pressure on Goff, and he'll be playing with virtually no offensive weapons with virtually no rushing attack. The Rams are the big winners in this trade, but I don't think it gets them over the hump.

Florio on PFT says they gave up more than necessary to unload Goff's $43 million guaranteed contract.
They also point out that the Rams haven't had a 1st round pick since 2016 and won't until 2024 unless they somehow trade up.
Stafford might also want a renegotiation on his deal, too.
As well any time before March 17th either team could scuttle the agreement. So, say the owners of the Lions think it's too much they can back out without penalty.
On the field, Stafford isn't as shaky as Goff under pressure, but he isn't as mobile. With a better team around him, he could be trouble for the NFC West. Then again,
he may not be as good as some think.

That’s 3, Riv.... and we have yet to clear January. Goff was one that was questioned when I listed him. Buckle up folks, there will be a plethora of trades/changes at starting QB & I think the NFCW will be even more competitive after it’s done. I’m very concerned about Aaron Rogers or Watson to the 9ers.
I’m surprised the Lions made this move. Goff is good, not great, & mediocre under pressure. Why take on his ridiculous o tract? I wonder if the lions play the Rams this year? If so, Aaron D. & co will be on Goff like white on rice. That said, his team beat ours 12 days after he had surgery on his throwing hand. SMH.

It’s about all those picks for Detroit . They are in full on rebuild mode. If Goff should pan out it’s a bonus . For the rams it’s win now . Anything less than a Lombardi or several is a disaster . I worry about the QB situation in the division as well . Stafford is a huge upgrade , a gutsy tough gunslinger with a big arm . Accuracy at a career 62.5% is his drawback as well as a bit of a farve esque habit of throwing it up . The Seahawks have beaten him many times . Still it’s an upgrade . AZ is set with an extremely dynamic player . The real wild cards are what the 9 ers do with Watson still out there . Texans GM says no way so far . Green Bay and Rodgers swear it’s all good but who knows . Beyond that my greatest concern is which Russ shows up this year . If he’s vintage we’re good but if he’s the guy he was 2nd half of the year we have our own problem

Whoa! I actually read the trade incorrectly. It’s a great trade for the Lions. I didn’t see all the draft booty they got.

Your team went all in on a Super Bowl run believing a QB like Stafford can make them immediately capable of winning. It might work. Stafford has been languishing in Detroit. He gets to step into a team with everything but the QB.

So looking at the Goff draft, Rams have 4 #1’s, two #2’s and a #3 invested in 33 year old Stafford. Wow

Yes sis that’s no doubt . All that loot for a 12 year vet with zero playoff wins . It better pan out or it’s a disaster for LA. The lions will likely screw it up regardless .

I just read a report that the rams inquired about Aaron Rodgers prior to agreeing to the stafford deal

..although they did get a few years out of Goff, for what is was worth. I’ve always like Stafford. I know everybody thinks they can play till 40, but I’m not so sure about that. Even with RW, I think you’ll see deterioration. It’s possible we have.

I agree, and I posted on this Months ago TS. I think we have seen the best Football RW has. He will be 33 in Nov, and he is not a drop back 6-4 QB like Tommy. He is not going to be able to run around like this till he is 40. That's why I said, I would trade Deshawn Watson for RW, in a heartbeat, and I love RW, but 25 vs 33, no brainer.

Yeah, I think I'd make that trade as well. And I'm not knocking RW, but Watson is a legit top-end QB, 25...and 6'2". He was ranked #4 by ESPN, RW was #2.
