Party's On for '72 Dolphins

Postby RiverDog » Mon Oct 16, 2023 3:37 am

The Niners and Eagles, the two remaining undefeated teams in the league, both lost in cliffhangers yesterday, meaning that the '72 Dolphins perfect 17-0 season remains the only undefeated/untied team in the modern NFL. It happened pretty early this season, in Week 6 before Halloween. Larry Czonka, Mercury Morris, Bob Griese, Jake Scott, and Co. must be getting pretty old by now. I wonder if any of them will live to see their record broken?

That cork in the bottle must be getting pretty old. Hope some of them are still alive. It would have been cool if the 2023 Dolphins went undefeated but that went away.

In a way I hope they don't live to see it broken. Maybe it's a little sentimental on my part, but it's pretty cool to be able to remember the 'Perfect Season' of my youth and it's not been duplicated.

Here's some ages of that '72 Dolphins team:

Larry Czonka, 76. Bob Griese, 76. Paul Warfield, 80. Mercury Morris, 80. Jake Scott passed away at age 75. Don Shula passed away a few years ago at age 90.

So most should still be around and are young enough to drink a toast to their unequaled season.

Well if not I hoisted a double of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked for 'em.

I was a little less sophisticated and hoisted an IPA to them once the Eagles lost.

I'd have probably gone a similar route myself if I weren't watching my carbs... kinda miss good beer.

I'm right there with you, bro. I regard beer as a treat for special occasions and wouldn't have been drinking one had it not been for my brother coming over to visit, something he hasn't done for 4 years. I usually have two glasses of chardonnay in the evening to satisfy my alcohol craving.
