A RiverDog Prediction About Our 2024 Schedule

We will play the Miami Dolphins in Sao Paulo, Brazil in the 2024 season. Here's why:

The NFL just announced that there will be a game played in Brazil next season. The Miami Dolphins have been awarded that 'market', officially called the Global Markets Program, so it makes sense that Miami would be one of the teams involved in the first game held in South America.

However, the Dolphins have 8 home games next season, so it's unlikely that they will either volunteer one or that the league would force them to donate a home game. Consequently, the Hawks have never played a home game at any location other than in Seattle and we have 9 home games next season, and one of those home games will be against...you guessed it, the Miami Dolphins.

Plus, the Dolphins and Seahawks are in opposite conferences, so there wouldn't be a competition aspect to it like it would be if they asked us to donate a home game vs. the Niners.

There's definitely some good logic to that scenario. I wonder if the NFL has teams in mind for different areas long term. For instance 4 or 5 teams play regularly in England and another 4 or 5 play in Germany to get some familiarity and support for a few teams in each area. If they go to Brazil, might that take away any momentum the NFL has built in Europe?
Just a half baked thought that crossed my mind.

Aahhh jeez, the league is out to make it hard on Sea. Travel from Sea to Brazil is about twice as long as Miami to Brazil plus the time zones. Why not have a game in Alaska?

There will have to have a bye week in there somewhere either before or after the trip.

So Seattle is at a geographical disadvantage. What else is new?

Packers will face the Eagles in Brazil.
Good try, though.

The full schedule will be released on Wednesday, May 15th:

Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal reports that NFL teams were informed on Tuesday that the regular-season schedule is expected to be released next Wednesday, May 15th.

As a rule, it's on the 2nd Thursday in May which would have been this Thursday the 9th. No word on why they're late this season. Perhaps they're still trying to figure out the international schedule.

It's also odd that they're releasing it on this particular Wednesday as MLB has a full slate of games on the 15th and just 6 the following day. As a rule, they usually like to take advantage of a slow sports day in order to maximize their audience as it's become quite the event for a lot of folks, including me.
