Sherman arrested (again) for DUI

Think it’s time he learns his lesson? Hopefully it’s not as bad and obnoxious/dangerous as last time. Dude is worth generational wealth and he can’t afford an Uber?

I'm surprised. He seemed back on the right path and doing NFL media and his podcast. Not sure why he would risk his NFL job with a DUI arrest. He needs to be more thoughtful and less risky with his behavior.

I don't want to jump to conclusions as we have the tendency to try people in the media. There's still a lot of facts that we don't know. What was his BAC? What was he doing to get pulled over? Speeding? If so, how fast was he going? Was he driving erratically? Are there any videos of his arrest? Was there any kind of uncooperative behavior like there was when Geno got nabbed? And what the hell was he doing out at 4am on a Saturday morning?

Sherman was on probation as a result of a suspended sentence for first degree negligent driving conviction stemming from an incident in September of 2021. He plead guilty in March of 2022, was sentenced to 90 days in jail but had it suspended under the condition that he does not have any future alcohol or drug related incidents. It was implied that his suspension was for two years. So when did that two years start? From when he was first arrested in 2021? If so, he's probably OK, at least as far as violating the terms of his previous conviction. The date of the plea deal? If that's the case, he could end up having the original sentence, ie 90 days jail time, reinstated. He could be looking at eating off a tin plate for a few months.

I'm hearing a few more unsubstantiated rumors. The word is that Sherman was pulled over doing 79 mph in a 60mph zone, and if it was the WSP that pulled him over, that means an urban freeway, ie I-5, I-405, or I-90. Supposedly he claimed that he had two Margaritas earlier in the evening, took the roadside sobriety test but refused the breathalyzer. The breathalyzer at the roadside is optional, but if he refused the one at the station, he's in deep caca.

My understanding is that the terms of his suspended sentence are nonnegotiable. If he's convicted of an alcohol-related offense within two years, then the terms of the original sentence are automatically re-instated. If they reinstate his previous sentence, then this incident would be considered his 2nd, and refusing a breathalyzer for a 2nd offense carries with it a 45-day jail sentence.

Like I said, most of this is unsubstantiated, but depending on the actual facts, Sherman could be in some serious trouble. We might have seen the last of him on Amazon Prime.

Maybe Sherman will get lucky like Marshawn. Marshawn was driving in Vegas probably about a year ago and toasted a new Mustang GT that was untitled, uninsured, unregistered and he was found asleep on the side of the road leaving a trail of Mustang parts and wheels as he went. Maybe he got off because he wasn't actually moving when the police found him. He got off again with probation.
Sherman may be practicing his bad announcing in Jail for awhile after blowing probation.

Or luck out like Geno. It took the WSP 15 months to process Geno's sample, and during that time, the refrigerator it was stored in broke down. Then it took the prosecutor another 5 months to make up his mind as to whether or not he was going to file charges. The end result is that it ended up taking 19 months from the time Geno was arrested until they finally decided not to press charges. Had he did, the handling of Geno's sample would have almost certainly come under fire, and the fact that it was a high-profile case, they would have been standing out there with their flies unzipped, their ineptness on full display.

Who was it that said justice delayed is justice denied?

Here's a few more details on Sherman's arrest:

Bail was set at $5,000 on Monday for former NFL star Richard Sherman following his weekend arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Sherman was pulled over just before 2 a.m. Saturday for driving 79 mph (127 kmh) in a 60 mph (97 kmh) zone on Interstate 405 south of Seattle, Washington State Patrol Trooper Jordan Hazzard-Thomas wrote in a probable cause statement. His eyes were bloodshot and watery, he smelled of intoxicants, and he declined to take a breath test, Hazzard-Thomas wrote.

After spending the weekend in the King County Jail in Seattle, Sherman waived his right to appear at a bail hearing Monday. His bail was set at $5,000, and his attorney, Jon Scott Fox, said he expected Sherman to be processed and released quickly.

Sherman in 2022 pleaded guilty in Seattle to two misdemeanor charges stemming from a drunken driving and domestic disturbance the year before. He also admitted to a criminal infraction of speeding in a roadway construction zone.

Sherman's next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
