Let's try to keep it all in here for clarity.
So far:
CB D.J. James
RB George Holani
LB Jamie Sheriff
James is a surprise considering Burns' injury, but maybe that tells us it's not as serious. Macintosh made Holani expendable.
Hoping we can get both on the PS, but James as a 6th rounder might be snagged.

I’d like to see Sherriff and Holani on the PS, but I would think other teams will have an interest.

Breaking News!Dee Eskridge is recovering from an injury sustained while exiting the Virginia Mason Athletic Center today after being waived by the Seattle Seahawks. At this time we do not have an update on the severity of the injury or how long Dee Eskridge will be sidelined for. However, we did reach out to the Seahawk's front office for comment. One front office staff member said " Yeah, we just said to him 'thank you for your contributions' and wished him luck on his next journey, and as he was walking out the door, the door slowly closed behind him, and I guess there was some contact with door?"

I am not surprised they cut Holani and only kept 3 RBs. Shenault is effectively an extra RB listed as a wide receiver, kind of like what Percy Harvin was and currently the basic version of Deebo. Shenault is also a great blocking wide receiver who lines up off the O-Line, sort of that skinny type TE. I think Shenault will be all over the field come game days, but the way he was used in preseason I can see why front office cut Holani, and Eskridge.

So the Seahawks traded for Michael Barrett, and with in a week they cut him? I guess they feel he will land on the practice squad, but he can still be claimed. I guess the entire move was to dump Michael Jackson get nothing in return.

				Same thought on Barrett 4xPIPS.
Eskridge is good riddance for me. I’m always a sucker for a good comeback story, or in this case a get the f going story, but his DV trouble made ME check out on him. And with all respect Riv, he turned out to be a bad pick, but his talent and potential were worth the pick. The rams wanted him, and settled for Tutu Atwell with the next pick. That’s tutu to beat you to us from the rams. Tough to swallow. Smh.
I’ll trust the process… and every year at this time, I’m reminded how sh1++¥ I would be as a GM. The heart wants what it wants. Holani

 for example. Westover too.

My problem with the Eskridge pick wasn't so much his talent as it was the position. We had much more pressing needs than a #3 WR, we had just 3 draft picks that season, and he was our #1 overall. I also have a problem with the WR position itself, that it's over valued, that good, serviceable WR's are a dime a dozen and can be found on Day 3 of the draft. Plus, unlike Metcalf, who as a bargain where we picked him at, Eskridge was a bit of a reach.
I did some research a few years ago, assigned a draft value by position for each pick during the PC/JS regime, and assigned an average draft slotting to each position. There was a huge disparity between WR/RB and OL. I don't know if that was typical of the average NFL team or not, but it did show a huge bias within our organization.

Yeah, I need someone to explain this one to me, looks pretty bumbling as I see it. I'd rather have just kept Jackson.

I'll try, though I don't know if it's correct. My guess is that, if the Panthers had released him, he hits waivers, so they couldn't pry him away from the Panthers to take a guaranteed look at him without a trade.
That it was just a player exchange and no draft capital and a position of depth, it's a little easier to stomach, but still seems a little high of price especially if he isn't seen as valuable enough to put on the PS.

Yeah, I guess they traded a guy they were going to cut anyway for a guy they did cut anyway. Must not have been too impressed with his progress since MacD coached him in college.

He had one tackle in the Cleveland game; he had 25 snaps on defense and 10 on special teams. Granted, he didn't get to practice that week with the team, so maybe he gets some grace and makes it to practice squad.

When are the Practice Squads announced and finalized?
I thought that there was a gap between cut down day and when players could be signed to the PS. Am I wrong in this?

If Jackson had a shot at the 53, then it's weird, at best, or terrible scouting, at worst.
But if MM had decided that Jackson was going to get cut anyway, then I think it's a totally defensible move. You get a trial run from a player of interest at a position of need. If he shines enough to make the 53, then it's a good move. If he gets cut, then you're exactly where you'd be without the trade. All upside, and no downside...as long as you knew Jackson was going to get cut.
We can't know what was in MM's mind, so which of these is true isn't clear. But I'd have to think he's hyperaware of the need to get his first roster right, which is why I'm more inclined to the second explanation.

I am actually surprised that Coby Bryant was kept. His deep coverage was pretty poor during preseason, and a various Seahawks podcast had him as a for sure cut. He did have an early INT in the 1st preseason game, but he did wiff on a few big throws during the preseason. I factor he is around for special teams and a deep back up at this point.

I think his versatility is key. They may have felt fine with 5 CBs knowing that Bryant could fill in if necessary.

Versatility.... as in he can play corner as well as safety, I would imagine most DBs can make that shift if their career is angling to be a backup on a 53 man roster. He hasn't been decent at either of those two spots. Since 2022 his playing time has gone down hill, and never started in 2023. He wasn't great at slot corner when he was used a couple years back either, and last season move to safety but even after injuries to our Safeties he never started again. I am all for him to make a comeback, but I felt our depth was solid at DB, and could have kept a more valuable piece elsewhere.

Eskridge didn't stay unemployed too long. The Dolphins signed him to their practice squad:
