Change to new kickoff rule

They've moved the ball up five more yards to create more touchbacks and fewer returns:

I agree. I wish they'd quit screwing around with it. All it's doing is making the game more complicated and harder to explain to those who didn't grow up with the game like most of us have. Just go back to the old way of doing it and live with the consequences.

I didn't like them at first but as I got used to them the changes weren't too bad. I hope that the changes they are making are so there are more run backs on kickoffs, but there's always the 'unintended consequences' factor to any change.

The changes they are making will actually discourage more runbacks because they are moving the kickoff point closer to the 50 yard line. More kicks will go out of the endzone. The expressed design of this is to discourage runbacks, as I understand it, to increase player safety.
