Draft Class of 2025, and UDFA

Just figured it may be easier to discuss the draft as a whole.

I will say considering this image of what we had just drafted, we got some serious butter-biscuit up farms boys on our team, some rockin' the pornstache. It's quite an image shift, but I kind of like it. Between Grey Zabel, Rylie Mills, Robbie Ouzts, Bryce Cabledue, and Mason Richman, this fun looking group. I doubt shaving will be priority for any of these young men the next few months.

We've been getting mostly good reviews from the media as most are giving us a B+ or above, and I'd tend to agree. It was a pretty evenly spread draft that addressed all of our current needs. For JS, it was a departure from the past as he's traditionally discounted the value of offensive linemen, particularly IOL, and if he executes a draft day trade, it's usually trading down in the early rounds to accumulate more picks in the lower half of the draft. But this time, he traded up into the upper 2nd round to select a player that had unexpectedly fallen.

The primary reason for what appears at this point to be an outstanding draft was due to two things: JS's aforementioned change of attitude and the fact that we had 10 picks, 4 in the top 52. That is extremely unusual for us and due in large part to two blockbuster trades: Metcalf to the Steelers and Geno to the Raiders. We're not likely to be in that situation anytime soon.

I'm not doing my touchdown dance just yet. I can recall being ecstatic when we selected Aaron Curry with our 4th overall pick, one of the highest in franchise history. But I am anxious to see how these guys look in the blue and green.

You bring up a good point, and I did read your post in the Milroe thread. I too was head scratching as I was hoping to pick higher on another IOL and of course edge higher. We have a more glaring issue at IOL then any other position, Grey obviously helps that, but he is one person. My biggest concern is center. Olu hasn't fared well, gets pushed around quite a bit, and at times late in games he is huffin an puffin.

I guess when they scouted the draft, they felt some of these Tackle picks may kick down and play guard. I am higher on Sataia Laumea then most here, and I feel he is can be a solid starter if he develops more. However, Olu isn't someone I am sold on. Anthony Bradford isn't solid, and Christian Haynes is horrible.

Who knows maybe Bryce Cabledue or Mason Richman can play guard better?

I’m hoping the draft picks pan out, too but after a decade or more, I’m quite jaded in my expectations.
