From ProFootballRumors.com:

Seattle will use its first-round pick, Grey Zabel, at guard, The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar notes. As our Ely Allen noted in his mock draft, the North Dakota State product played across the O-line with the Bison. Zabel saw time at both guard spots and each tackle position in college, and a center NFL future came up as well. The Seahawks, who did not allocate much in the way of resources to guard following Damien Lewis‘ 2024 exit, are set to place Zabel at LG, per Hall of Fame ex-Seahawk guard Steve Hutchinson (h/t ESPN.com’s Brady Henderson). Zabel would replace Laken Tomlinson at LG, while Henderson adds primary 2024 RG starter Anthony Bradford competes with 2024 third-rounder Christian Haynes, Sataoa Laumea and rookie sixth-rounder Bryce Cabeldue at the other guard post

Michael-Shawn Dugar usually doesn't throw out a lot of fluff. So I definitely see this as more a reality going forward. Our left side would seem pretty stout with Zabel and Cross, just hoping the right side is a little more dialed in at some point. Competition is always good. These preseason games will be a good test for the right side, and presuming Abe can stay healthy.

The surprise would have been if they were gonna use him anywhere else.

There was talk he could be used at Center before the draft.

Yeah, he played all 5 positions and a lot of the talk at the Senior Bowl was that he could get drafted at Center but I would have been surprised if we didn't draft him as a guard.

Honest question: Is there a monetary difference between a guard vs a center in rookie contracts or the 5th year option for 1st rounders? I couldn't turn anything up in an internet search.

If there is, it wouldn't be much. I think tackles will always have a premium over IOL as for rookie salaries. Same reason why a lot of DBs want to be drafted as a Corner vs a Safety, more $$$

The rookie wage scale began in 2011. It all matters where you were drafted regardless of the position you play. Here is a brief overview for 2025.

Thanks for the info. I think I was getting it mixed up with the franchise tag, which has a by-position pay scale.
