It's become a big event. One of the things that the NFL has done over the years has been to squeeze every dime possible out of us fans, and although none of this are paying to watch the event, it will attract a large audience. They've done the same thing with the draft and the scouting combine. Events that barely made the sports page are now a big deal. It was all done in an effort to keep the game relevant and in the news year-round.
This year, it's scheduled for Wednesday, May 14th at 5pm PDT. We've known our 2025 opponents since the end of the regular season. At home, we'll face the Cards, Rams, Niners, Texans, Colts, Saints, Bucs, and Vikings. Our 9 road games include the Rams, Niners, Cards, Falcons, Panthers, Jags, Steelers, Titans, and Commanders. What we don't know, and what is set to be revealed next Wednesday, is the specific dates and in some cases, the specific location.
One of the interesting things for me is whether or not we'll draw an international game. Two of our away opponents, the Jags play a game in London and Steelers will host the first ever game in Ireland, have already been chosen to host an international game. Personally, I think we have a pretty good chance of being selected to participate in one of those two games. Here's why:
Both teams are in opposite conferences, and as a rule, the league prefers interconference matchups so as not to create a controversy over the influence it might have on competitiveness. Teams are reluctant to give up big intradivisional rivalry games, like Steelers-Ravens. We didn't play an international game last season, and have participated in just 2 overseas games since the series began.
Along with a few friends, I like attending at least one road game per season. It's my way to see the country. But I do have a few criteria, one of which I don't want to go to a November or December game in a northern tier city in an outdoor stadium. I'm also interested in going to an international game if we draw one and can get game tickets, so the schedule release is a big deal for me.
