Smacked us last night.

We have 2 huge pines in the front yard and both were struck by lightning.

I have industrial surge protectors on everything but alas, my 60" TV is gone, as is my wi-fi modem and 2 computers, (all on surge protection).

A HUGE portion of one of the trees exploded at the base and actually impaled an close tree with huge splinters. I SLEPT through all of it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife said a gigantic spark came out of our master bathroom, the curcuit is dead and it is a GFCI !!!!!!

Dang. Oh well, insurance will pay for a new 4K TV and new computers. Obviously I got a new modem already.

At least you and your family are safe. You can replace the TV. In my only trip to the Houston area back in 2013, I saw lightning storms like I've never seen before.

I've heard that surge protectors aren't a good defense for lightning strikes, so I've grounded my two OTA antennas. You need to use a good, thick ground wire, too, 8 gauge copper.

My Thoughts and prayers to you and yours. I know you are counting your blessings that it was only "stuff". My niece's husband had an evergreen crash through the roof and almost land on his head then 9 months later he was taking a nap down stairs when he almost bought the farm and 2nd. time.

I am glad you called it mother nature instead of an "act" of God. I t isn't "God" it IS just a natural happening on a planet, could happen on any planet in the universe.

I was inspecting the pine trees. One of them has spots on all sides where the bark was ripped off and the other one has about a 5 foot long by foot and a half wide section that too out about half if the trunk.

Here's some pics of the trees, which will now have to be dropped because the lightning crystalized the sap.

In retrospect. I need to thank Ms. Nature for upgrading my entire house with new tv's and computers. Also got rid of the annoying SE Texas pine trees in my yard, and all for free.

I got a new Samsung 65 "4K tv and new 4k Yamaha AV receiver and Polk audio Sub for just over $1000, Computers will have new motherboards and trees are gone, thank you Miss Nature....
