Let's do a different kind of thread. See if anyone does anything interesting on the fitness or sport front.
I like to lift weights as my preferred form of fitness/sport. This COVID lockdown was a pretty big setback for me as I was getting back into shape after a long layoff from weight training due to an injury.
Pre-COVID: I was 230 at 5'11". Bench Press: 300/Squat: 395/Deadlift: 445/Overhead Press: 215.
I had worked back to the above after about a 15 year layoff of lifting weights. I did some cardio work between the layoff, but I have no great love of cardio. It's pretty far off my all time best lifts of 525 in the squat and 400 in the bench, but respectable given I worked back to the above in my late 40s.
So now post-COVID I've started lifting again. I'm 51 now. I blew up to 294. I'm looking to bring my weight down while bringing all my big lifts back up.
Post-COVID after about 3 or 4 months back at the gym 2 or 3 days a week I'm at the following: Bench Press: 285/Squat: 315/Deadlift: 335/Overhead Press: 225
So my lifts are coming back up. At this age I'm extra careful lifting as I don't need another big injury that will cause a long layoff. The goal is to bring my weight down again, all my lifts up, but do a slower approach as before I was feeling very glycogen depleted and recovery was slow due to dieting.
I'd like to hit about 220 while hitting the following weight goals:
Bench Press: 315/Squat: 405/Deadlift: 500/Overhead Press: 265
Bench press comes up easy. I should hit that fairly soon. Squat and deadlift take more work as recovery is rough still working full time. I'm extra careful with these lifts as bad form or pushing too hard leads to injury. Overhead press is just a slow lift to build up as it takes a strong ability to brace using the overall body.
I was thinking of documenting the advancement on Youtube, but I don't feel like recording in the gym all the time. I'll document on here for now. See what can be done in the 50s weightlifting.
Anyone else want to hop on with some fitness or health goals to inspire others. Hop on it.
