Viewing the Eclipse

With this tool you can find out how much of the sun will be blocked out in your area. Where I live it will be 67%

In 1979 I lived in Yakima, and it was totally dark, rather eerie.

In zip code 42003, you will see a total solar eclipse.
The eclipse will peak at 2:23:34 pm EDT, when the moon obscures 100% of the sun.

It just so happens that I'm off work that day, so weather permitting, me and a buddy of mine are driving down into central Oregon that morning. I've already acquired my eyewear.

Our company is doing that for us:

I have ordered enough eclipse glasses for each employee to have a pair on the date of the eclipse. They have the required ISO rating and came from one of the sites recommended by NASA. I’d hate for us to ruin a five year safety record with an eclipse eye injury.

I like my company.

I assume that you're in the path of the total eclipse. You can get a pair of cardboard frame glasses for less that a buck apiece, so your employer was wise to get them for everyone. It's a good cover your ass strategy as they could discipline you for not wearing them if you tried to claim an on the job injury due to looking at the eclipse.
