No guarantees moving forward, but this just simply needed to happen.

About time... and they didn't fire Coach Cable with him? The ZBS has got to go.

No official press release as of yet, and agreed the whole offense was a problem very hard to call a game if you can't block or run, that was not Bevells department, scheming and situational play calling and personnel usage was however and that failed badly. The whole problem needs to be addressed not just the OC.

One down, one to go.

It's reassuring to know that Pete isn't happy with the direction this team is heading. Like they always say, the first step in curing a problem is recognition that one exists.

As happy as I am he's gone, I also have to give him props for his role in finally bringing a championship to Seattle. Good luck, Bevell.

Onward and upward.

Now make this happen and re-tool the entire offense.

This is a HAPPY DAY!!! In Seahawk Town I can tell you. I can also tell you I would bet that this was Paul Allen putting his foot down! Pete finally was told, either Bevell goes or YOU Go Pete and Pete did what he was told. Now, did Paul also tell Pete that TC has to be fired also? I sure hope so, maybe there were mitigating circumstances and Cable has one more year OR he is the NEXT to GO YAY!!! One can only HOPE. Take the medicine Pete! Trust us, you will fall in love with winning all over again!

That's the question, isn't it?
Who is out there that might fit the bill as OC?
What if they gave it to Cable? How would fans feel then?
From the outside perhaps David Shula. Sometimes even the same message from someone new can get players to perform better, but a fresher perspective is needed.

I can't say I'm unhappy, nor surprised, but I think this falls into the "careful what you wish for" category.

Pretty hard to think we can't do better, though, with the periodic flashes of brilliance we've seen from our offense.

Give it to Cable?????

That would be like cutting your own head off.

I think Cables head is squarely on the chopping block. If you fire your OC because a fresh start is needed, then you must get rid of your line coach or move him out of that responsibility and get someone with an actual blocking scheme that will work at least 25% of the time.

Bevell was 50% or less of the overall problem. I'm pretty tired of hearing the excuses about linemen coming out of college not being able to play in the NFL. For them to come in and be asked to play a ZBS is ridiculous and all of us have seen the results.

Of the two, Cable scares me more. I hope and pray he doesn’t stay, let alone call plays.

Mike Shula could be interesting.

A better description would be the "jumping from the frying pan into the fire" category.

But I look at it this way: Worst case scenario is that if who ever Pete hires turns out to be a real dud, then the team implodes, Pete leaves or gets fired, we get some high draft picks and a new coach, the best money can buy courtesy the richest owner in the league.

IMO we were going nowhere with our current mix. The best we could hope to do would be a .500ish team on the bubble of making the playoffs yet not being a true SB contender.

I have to say that Cable should be walking out that door alongside Bevell. It would be incredible difficult to call plays with that pathetic OL. I am not saying that Bevell doesn't share some blame. I don't like his route concepts and feel that his Offense lacks depth in general, but it's hard to say how much of that has to do with the OL and his lack of say in the run game...

Seattle now needs a Cable must go parade. Only fixing 50% of the problem. I’d equate it to only taking half a viagra. What good does half a woody do ya? Come on Pete let’s go for it, full wood is-in order.

A thanks to Bevell for his role in developing Russell. His simple system was good for a young QB learning to play at the NFL level. Good luck at a new job.

Glad Pete is back to his "Always Compete" philosophy. The last few seasons have been unacceptable on offense. I still believe the performance of the offensive line is even more of a problem than the offense in general. I hope I see Cable gone soon. If Bevell had to go, Cable definitely has to go.

Makes Zero sense to keep Cable around in any capacity, let alone as a candidate for OC(?)
He's one of the few out there who'd make us Worse.
Get rid of him.
Make it one big change with new coordinators and OL coach.
Perfect time to blow it up and start over in this area since our rivals are doing the same.

Agreed.
Will it hamper the search for an OC if they don't have control of the run game?
I would think it would as some of them might think they are in a system that 'neuters' their ability to affect change or maybe their creativity.

I think you guys are underselling Cable a bit and Bevel's O scheme. For several years I noticed that the Seahawks ran some of the widest splits in the league. The philosophy in place called for pressing the edges with speed with Wilson, Harvin, Richardson etc and stretching the D sideline to sideline even before the snap, thus creating more room in the middle for a punishing, north/south runner with great lateral explosiveness in Lynch. This combined beautifully with Cable's zone blocking scheme. IMO, it's much easier to take an inexperienced lineman and teach him how to run block than to set him up in a prostyle O and pass protect. The players and personnel in place made for a very explosive if not consistent O, which played well with a great special teams and turnover creating machine of a D. The O philosophy was easily good enough to contend for a SB, and the Seahawks' personnel decisions reflected that.

Now though, you are asking Bevel to produce with no true number 1 receiver (Baldwin is great, but not a #1), no true threat at RB and the same makeshift O line that is now asked to pass protect a lot more due to the decline in D. The personnel is not in place to succeed in that style of O. You have the same undersized speed threats on the edges in Lockett and Richardson, but it's a lot easier to scheme against without one of the best rushing O's in the entire league. The one piece that is there in Graham had a very productive year in the redzone. So, I don't think Bevel was all that bad.

Seahawks are at a crossroads. They could try to load up and hit the lottery again on D, but it's unlikely they are going to find perennial all-pro if not HOF caliber pieces in Sherman, Chancellor et al to replicate that D. The "known" commodity that they do have is what they've determined is their franchise QB. Now they need to give him the weapons, an O scheme that is suited for a franchise QB and supporting pieces. I think that's the route they have to go now.

So any guesses as to who our new coordinators are going to be?

I haven’t heard anything but I am excited to see what they do. An imaginative OC would certainly be exciting with our specialty guys on O and a revamped OL.

My excitement over who they might higher is mitigated by Pete Ball a little. I can see him going with another low risk offensive philosophy guy, as has been his MO as a coach

I think Pete would be fine with a ball control Offense, but he still likes the chunk plays and that's where an OC could get more creative. It's always about protecting the ball, though.

I think Pete's going to go all in with someone like Chip Kelly as "Ass't HC / Offense" and have him call the plays -- I think it would fit RW.

I have no idea on D after being rebuffed by both our former DC's.

Pete's run first, ball control offense worked well when we had the top defensive team in the league. We're not that good defensively anymore as we've slid all the way out of the top 10. That side of the ball is going to have to improve as well if Pete wants to maintain his basic philosophy, and with the overpaid, aging veterans we have on defense, they will be challenged to get back to playing Seahawk football. Besides, simply changing coaches isn't going to fix what's wrong. Outside of Russell, we don't have a lot of talent on offense, especially if we don't bring back Jimmy Graham.

Personally I hope he migrates away from his run first philosophy as I don't see our defense rebounding nor do I see us gaining 120+ yards per game on the ground next season. So we'll see who he hires.

According to PFT, the Seahawks have reached out to Brian Schottenheimer to interview for OC.
It would make sense as he's a conservative run first type of coach that Pete espouses for the team but hasn't really developed high powered Offenses.
I hope he can be more imaginative with formations and player use, though if he's hired.

Schottenheimer isn't a bad candidate, per say, but I'd like for us to think outside the norm of retread candidates.
Brian also isn't a guy that would qualify to be HC after Carroll leaves, IMO, so I think that's an important part of the process as well.

Be it our next OC or DC, it'd be nice if one or the other were possibly legit HC material down the road. Not a requirement by any means, though.

Who was Russell Wilson's OC at Wisconsin? they seemed to have a run first mentality like Pete likes and maybe JS has an "IN" with him.

I’m just fascinated by the palace intrigue. The time to fire Bevell was the day he left the Seahawks dynasty one yard from immortality. Cable was after last year. Was pressure applied to Pete? He seemed loyal to a fault. Just wondering.

I hope they hit on coaches like they did on players in the day. This is a lot of turnover.
