Sounds Like Kam and Cliff Are Done

Postby RiverDog » Tue Jan 02, 2018 2:34 pm

From a tweet from Bob Condotta earlier today:

"Cliff and Kam are going to have a hard time playing football again,'' Carroll says of Avril and Chancellor, but indicates it will be their decision.

They'll be missed. Are there any potential FA's out there we might be interested in to replace them?

They are already part of the roster or need to be tendered.

While I figured this was coming, it makes me sad to read this. Thanks to two of the best to suit up in the blue & green.

Yes, we all owe a debt of gratitude to both of those individuals. We wouldn't have that Lombardi without them.

But as far as replacing them, I'm not too worried. Whatever it is about Pete, if its his system, his ability to identify talent for that system, or his ability to coach up players, the defense is always good. I'm ten times more worried about how we're gonna fix our OL.

Until I see either player officially retire, I'll take that with a grain of salt. Don't put much stock in what players will or will not do, based on tweets from insiders.... ultimately, each Paget will decide and do what they feel right. Not what Candotta or even PC think.

It did sound like Pete doesn't expect either of them to play for us again.
There's no reason to be coy at this time of the year and he's usually very positive.
If either or both decide to continue their careers elsewhere, I hope they get out on their own terms.

Kam just posted this to Instagram without comment, but it certainly suggests retirement to me: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bea01YvDSCW/

Kinda sounds like that, doesn't it?

Particularly when you consider his style of play, it's probably best for him that he pull the plug and save his health.

Absolutely. He will surely be missed.
He at least reached the top of the hill in his career and not all great players can say that, but it's a little sad to see him go.
Things can change so fast in sports and in Football particularly.
All it took was one final hit and now it's over. Glad he got some of his money before it happened.

Kam gave his all for the team. Loved watching him. I hope he coaches some day. The smartest most physical players to play in the league. TEs will sleep easier if he truly retires. Vernon Davis might have a career year if he isn't hearing Kam's footsteps every time he runs a route.

Dudes! You going to have any team in 2018? Seems like no one wants to play there anymore and half the staff has taken a hike.

I remember when Mack Strong had to end his career because of C spine injuries. He was a great blocker for the tailbacks. But yeah, it's just a game. Not worth being paralyzed the rest of your life . . . no matter how much you get paid.

Kam is the second most feared safety in franchise history . Cliff is at least as important and was a premier pass rusher. Both were as responsible or more than Malcolm smith for the SB blowout. Kams hit on Thomas set the tone. Avril forced the pick 6.

Thanks guys . I think it would be near insanity to return to a violent sport with a neck issue.

All that said this looks like cap hell. JS and PC and whoever is left will have a huge job to figure this out.

I'm concerned it might be a year until the Cap room situation is fixed.

I don't think Kam is any less feared than Kenny was. I'd say both were right there at the baddest in the league for their own eras.

I cant disagree. ET packs a huge punch too for a little guy. Ask Gronk.they are the 3 baddest men ever to play safety in seattle for sure'
As we know easley brought so much more versatility which is why hes HOF, something Chancellor will not attain

Easley was a player who could play either S or CB as well as kick and punt returns.
Not many guys can be that versatile as well as bring the lumber like he could.
Kam is an enforcer within the perfect Defense for him while Easley could have played on any team of any era and dominated.
