2018 Schedule Release Date Set

Postby RiverDog » Tue Apr 03, 2018 1:08 pm

In recent years, this has become a big event. For me, it's important as I try to attend at least two road games per season.

The NFL schedule for 2018-2019 will be released April 19th 2018 at 8 PM EST with the schedule release show on NFL Network. Typically, ESPN.com, CBSSports.com & USAToday.com have the first internet publication of the schedule. The first dowloadable printable PDF schedules are typically published by ESPN. The preseason schedule will be April 11th. The release date varies based on scheduling, matchups & the start of the NFL free agency period.

I do think that there's a good chance that we're going to have one or two rough years, but it has little to do with the schedule. Besides, we're a long ways from September and schedules are very difficult to handicap this far out.

For example, last season half of the playoff participants did not make the playoffs the year before. The Super Bowl champion Eagles were one of those teams, and they didn't even have a winning record. The NFC West champion Rams were 4-12.

Parity reigns.

Obi,

I don't think it matters to River whether our team is good, bad or indifferent when he is looking for games to attend. I think he would go to the two away games no matter what. I might be wrong though. River could weigh in on this if he wants.

Truth. My wife has MS, doesn't like to travel, and is uncomfortable in large crowds. But I like traveling and seeing other parts of the country and use Seahawk road games as a pretense for the trip. One of my traveling buddies, Irish Greg, has a personal goal of seeing the Hawks play in every NFL city (he's about halfway there). As a belated Christmas present, I've started a tradition of treating my daughter and son-in-law to a Seahawks home game of their choosing.

One of the road games on our radar for 2018 is Chicago, but it has to fall before Thanksgiving for me to want to spend that kind of scratch and risk freezing my ass off. I also plan on going to the game in London as the British Isles are on my bucket list.

So as you can see, the schedule release is more than just an idle curiosity for me as it determines my plans for the last 4 months of the year.

Sorry to hear about your wife's MS Riv. My cousins all have/had that and it is a challenge.

I figured you wouldn't care about the projected talent on the team when determining the games to attend. Chicago is a nightmare in cold and wind so I hope it is one of the first 4-5 games of the season for you.

Haven't heard from IG for a while, Tell him hello from IDHawk when you see him again. I imaging he's retired by now.

Thanks for your concern about my wife. She's been diagnosed with MS for 18 years, just prior to us getting married. She's not severely limited, but she's not nearly as healthy as she looks, with back pains, nausea, and headaches. She has her good days and her bad days.

IG is retiring this August with 30 years in the Navy. Considering his sacrifices that are common to military personnel, that trumps my 40 years as a supervisor in the food processing industry. I will indeed pass along your congrats and well wishes.

You only have to wait until 5pm tomorrow, RD.
I hope your plans work out so you get to see the teams you want when the weather is good.

Your British Isles game is set.
From PFT:

The Seahawks will play the Raiders on Oct. 14 at the new Totttenham Hotspur stadium, the first NFL game at the brand new venue, which the league offered input and a little money for the construction of.

I'm assuming Tottenham is near London...

The date for the London game has been set for some time, and with it our bye week. And yes, Tottenham is a suburb of London.

NFL Network, of which I no longer receive, has a 2 hour program for the schedule release tonight at 5:00 pm. I'm crossing my fingers that the Chicago game falls in September or October.

That schedule could go either way, sort of. I see a much more likely season well under .500. Just seems like we lost our mojo and next year may crumble, similar to a down year for Car or GB. RW is our only true hope for success, but we just don’t have the talent of the NFC elite, at least rt now pre-draft...

Do we really play the Raiders at 10am?
It must be 1pm start time.

We catch a bit of a break in terms of not facing stellar QB's in the first 4 weeks.
Keenum is far from great and Trubisky still learning, plus it's primetime which we do well in.
Dak and Sam don't put a lot of fear in anyone.
It's also nice to host GB and Minny.

I'm looking forward to season, but don't expect playoffs at this point.
The real key will be establishing new cornerstone pieces on defense, and completely ditch anything to do with Bevell's predictable approach offensively.
This draft has pretty good depth across the board,
Coaching is gonna be even more key than usual now.
Bunch of new blood coming in, but I'm excited.

Just some random observations about our schedule:

We have two early (10:00am PT) starts, at Detroit and at Carolina.

We don't have a playoff team until Week 5 (vs. the Rams), and 7 of our first 8 games are against non playoff opponents. Just 2 of our road games (at Rams, at Panthers) are against playoff opponents.

We play the 49'ers twice in three weeks, on 12/2 (home) and on 12/16 (away).

Four of our last five games are at home. As a consequence, we have just two home games in the first two months.

Right now I would say we will be either 4-12 or 3-13 but lets see who we draft and how we start to shape up in TC. But, it isn't looking good. Total rebuild time.

I would say we win 6-7 games, SH4E. This not going to be a fun year.

who knows? Its always a crapshoot. Nobody predicted the Eagles season, the Vikes with Keenum starting, the Rams flipping the script. The Hawks fortunes will go as Schneider goes. Its reload or rebuild. The last few years results have not been encouraging but I'm not throwing in the towel. Here's hoping for a rerun of the haul between 2010 and 2012 with the FA additions of Bennett and Avril in 2013 as the cherry on top :P :P

I can see the argument for the floor at 8-8, but I can also see the argument for getting a top 10 pick next year.
As usual, a lot rests on the Offense. The last few years the Offense restricted us from winning games we should have won and now it seemingly has to carry more of the load with such a different personnel look on Defense.
Other teams will have a say in it, too as some will under perform expectations while others will surprise us. It's just the nature of competition and why the games aren't played on paper.

Thanks, ID. I'm staying within a 15 minute walk from Soldier Field near Grant Park. Cubs game is a 1:20pm local start.

I don't think I've stayed in that part of Chicago before but I'll tell you a quick story when I used to travel for the U.S. Govt. and missed a flight out of Laguardia (New Jersey) one day. I checked into the Ramada across the hwy from Laguardia and the hotel desk told me not to come out of my door, "no matter what" after the sun went down and to stay in there until the sun was up the next morning. Definitely not what you want to hear when checking in a dusk and you haven't had dinner yet. I called the closest pizza delivery guy (Dominos I think it was) and settled in for a night of TV and pizza.

There seems to be a large assortment of high end resterants nearby the hotel, but we'll cab or Uber any significant distances at night. Plus there'll be 4 of us.
